Topic: RE: Self Pay
Hi,

I was self pay and it took me about 6 months to figure out who I wanted to trust my life with.  My choice was Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico--wow what a nice hospital so very clean and the staff is fabulous.  I know without a doubt that this was the best choice I had ever made.  Excellent care, by a team of skilled doctors and staff.  I know that they can tell you some of the places that you can finance this surgery.  Just remember that they charge a high interest rate.  If you can get a loan at your local bank or credit union you might be better of.  But, no matter what it is worth every dime you are doing to pay.  I know that the price is lower for the sleeve now than when I had it.  I suggest that you call Dr. Aceves office and ask them about the financing and what their current cost is for the sleeve.

You will received the most excellent care you could ever have.  I am here for any questions that you might have.  This is something that you will never regret having.

Take care,

Hi Jen,

Congratulations to you.  What great news.  I will you great success.

If you have any question, I am more than willing to help you with anything.  I had the sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and lost 105 pounds.  I have maintained it for 1  1/2 years.  It is the best thing I have ever done for my self. Have you picked your doctor yet?

Take care,

Hi

I want you to consider NOT  having a lapband.  They are not the way to lose weight.  They are high maintenance, you need to have them filled and unfilled.  Too many people have had to have them removed or have a revision to a sleeve.  Please save yourself a lot of headache and consider having a sleeve.  Please read some posts and see all the problems involved with the lapband.  The weight loss from a lapband is much slower and they aren't something that you want for the rest of your life.

A sleeve once it is done, is a much better choice.

Take care,

Topic: RE: ? about self pay
Hi,

I had all these same questions.  So for me finding the best doctor to do my surgery was my first challenge.  I wanted someone who had skills and some statics.  I found that Dr. Aceves was the person who was going to do my surgery.  If you have any kind of complication while you are in his care they will take care of everything.  They test you new stomach 2 times before you go home to make sure that everything is working correctly and that you have NO leaks.  He would NEVER send you home unless he was very confident that you are in good health and able to travel.  He is located in Mexicali, Mexico--a very safe boarder to cross by the way.  He is rated in the top 5 doctors in the world who do weight loss surgery.  You will NEVER find a doctor in the US who will provide the kind of care you get from Dr. Aceves.

As for when you go home, your insurance will pay for anything that might need after the surgery as long as your primary care doctor orders it.  Before I went to Mexicali, I took all my research and information into my primary care doctor and discussed what I was going to do.  She said give me a week to read all this information and come back.  When I came back she was all smiles and said this was the right doctor for me, and to go for it.  She said when you get home come and see me two weeks after you are home.  She ordered a full blood panel for me to check all my levels.  Then after that I went in once a month to have her monitor things.  As time went on, she started taking me off so many of my meds.  So I suggest that you talk with your primany care doctor and they won't support your efforts to become healthy, I would find a doctor who is there to support and help you.

I was sleeved in Oct 2008 at age 63.  I lost 105 pounds in 14 months and 2 1/2 years later I have maintained my weight loss.

I am healthy and feel like I added 20 years on to my life.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Hugs and take care

If you are a self pay patient because your health ins excludes WLS,what happens if you have any complications after surgery.??

Will your insurance cover that. And what about blood tests you will need after the surgery.Would you be covered??

Can someone tell me their experiences as a self pay patient..Thanks

Topic: RE: Anthem BCBS of CA... 6 month supervised dietary program question
Hi there. I have Anthem BC BS of CA as well. The info you copied is just basically stating that you must have participated in attempts to loose weight (w/o surgery) and that your surgeon has to do his/her due diligence to make sure you did this. For example: Phen Phen, Phenteramine, previous medically supervised diets, weigh****chers, jenny craig ect
Unless their plan has changed you do not need a 6 month medical diet before surgery. I think your surgeon is misinformed about Anthem's policy; unless your surgeons office means they require a 6 month supervised diet.

Topic: RE: Financing?
There are companies who finance WLS.  Do a google search.  Another option is going to MX.  Very cheaper rates there for out of pocket and much more common than any one thinks.  Lap band will run you around $7K there, and VSG will cost you about $8 - $9K depending on the doc.  Post in each of those forums about people who went out of CON-US for surgeries and you'll get alot of answers.
Live like your dieing, love like you've never been hurt, dance like no one is watching.

I am in the very same exact situation. I am starting to research Mexico, but I wonder if I do that, will they refuse to cover any potential problems post-op. SO frustrated!!
