Topic: RE: Anthem BCBS of CA... 6 month supervised dietary program question
Hi there. I have Anthem BC BS of CA as well. The info you copied is just basically stating that you must have participated in attempts to loose weight (w/o surgery) and that your surgeon has to do his/her due diligence to make sure you did this. For example: Phen Phen, Phenteramine, previous medically supervised diets, weigh****chers, jenny craig ect
Unless their plan has changed you do not need a 6 month medical diet before surgery. I think your surgeon is misinformed about Anthem's policy; unless your surgeons office means they require a 6 month supervised diet.

Topic: RE: Financing?
There are companies who finance WLS.  Do a google search.  Another option is going to MX.  Very cheaper rates there for out of pocket and much more common than any one thinks.  Lap band will run you around $7K there, and VSG will cost you about $8 - $9K depending on the doc.  Post in each of those forums about people who went out of CON-US for surgeries and you'll get alot of answers.
Live like your dieing, love like you've never been hurt, dance like no one is watching.

Topic: RE: "Exclusion" -- is there any hope?
I am in the very same exact situation. I am starting to research Mexico, but I wonder if I do that, will they refuse to cover any potential problems post-op. SO frustrated!!

Post your question on the lap band forum. You'll get a lot of answers there. Good luck!

Topic: RE: Will meidcare pay for a revision in California
I ran into a lady at a new patient seminar who has both medi-cal and medicare and who is trying to have her lapband removed and the bypass done.. She is currently going through the process of getting her insurance approved, so there is hope, but who knows when it comes to the insurance companies. She was pretty sure it would be approved though.

Topic: Cal optima and Talbert Medical Group
I asked my pcp at Talbert Medical Group for a referal to a bariatric surgeon and got one the same day.  I was referred to Dr Peter Leport at Orange Coast Memorial. I attended the first appt, saw a physicians assistant and met with an insurance person.  I did all the classes they asked me to do and today they sent in for my approval..The office said I met Talbert's criteria and its up to the medical director of Talbert to make a decision though and it will take 2-3 weeks to find out if I'm approved.  Anyone have any experiences with them and what are my chances of being approved? I have cal optima (medi-cal) and I"m assigned to Talbert Medical Group in Fountain Valley.

Topic: Anthem BCBS of CA... 6 month supervised dietary program question
I’m live in Maryland but my insurance is Anthem BC BS of CA. I was wondering if anyone with the same insurance had to do a 6 month supervised program? I ask because when I decided to have WLS I asked my insurance company for a copy of the medical policy (SURG.00024), and it only states; The individual must have actively participated in non-surgical methods of weight reduction; these efforts must be fully appraised by the physicians requesting authorization for surgery. When I called the insurance company and asked how long the participation should be documented for, I was told there wasn’t a specific number but during my visit with my surgeon. I was told that BC BS requires 6 months. Does this sound right, who do I believe, how do I get the correct answer?  I also posted this in insurance, Cash Pay and financing forum.

Topic: Self Pay
 Hey all.

Congrats on who lost weight. I'm looking into getting the lap band surgrey but i have no insurance and will have to pay out of pocket. I'm just wondering from the people who had it done about how much did it cost? I want to see if i can even do it. I'm from upstate NY and would like to get an idea. Thanks
