Constipation and Protein Drinks-Is there a better choice?

I am not getting enough protein, so the folks on this board suggested a protein drink.  My problem with a protein drink is serious constipation of the most  difficult type. Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for me on a protein drink that may be a better match for me, knowing my issue!  Thanks in advance.  I will seriously appreciate your ideas on the matter.

Are you drinking the milk-based protein drinks?  If so, then perhaps you should try Isopure....it's a clear protein drink and has 160 calories and 40g of protein in 20oz.  You can find it at GNC. Coleen

You can add fiber in with your protein drink. Benefiber would not make a difference in the taste at all. I hope this helps a bit. Good Luck Inge

Well, there are 3 ways to keep your bowl moving well: fiber, fat, and fluids.  If you lack one or more of those, you can really slow things (or stop them... ouch).  It's not a good idea to be on stool softeners for a long time (as well as laxatives), but I know that doctors prescribe something called Lactulose for those that are chronically constipated (regardless of their diet and exercise... exercise helps keep things moving as well).  I know someone that had that problem and this drug was a miracle for them.  If that is something you may need, research it and ask about it.   In terms of a protein shake, I haven't heard of one causing a person to be constipated unless they were using milk and their calcium consumption was already pretty high (like taking supplements).  I use Gold Standard 100% Whey from GNC (no preservatives, artificial additives, colors or sweeteners).  I got vanilla and I'm pretty sure they have chocolate.  I don't have issues with it, but I generally don't have issues with my GI tract.  One really good thing about GNC is that if you buy something, you open it, try it, even several times, and hate it, you can return it, opened with the receipt. Good luck!  I hope this helped somewhat!

You can also buy psycillium husks to add to your drink.  (That's Benefiber without the high cost of the advertising.  Additionally, make sure your protein drink doesn't contain iron, because that will bind you up faster than you can say Isopure.

I made the huge mistake of ordering 2 cases of Isopure..couldn't stand the sickening sweetness and sold it on e.bay.  I add Benefiber and can't taste it in my protein drinks...also Phillip's tablets help a great deal. Dee

I don't use protein drinks but Miralax is pretty good for the constipation and its a powder you mix with any liquid so it doesn't taste bad.
