Weird? Let me think. No PMS. No Always pads. No puffiness. No bleeding. Nope it sure doesn't :) Is is healthy? Geez I hope so. The Canadian version of the FDA is really stringent in what they approve, so I'm hoping it's AOK. If it isn't,  I don't want to know because having no periods rocks my world :)

This is a debate I had with my OB/GYN a few weeks ago.  I have had a history of high blood pressure- although now with WLS I don't have a problem any longer.  I have a history of migraines- although I haven't had them in a while.  My DR went through the options that would not impact my weight loss and highly recommended the Mirena IUD.  I researched it and for now have no plans to have additional children.  The IUD allows you to change your mind.  I had my IUD put in yesterday and it was no big deal.  I am fully protected for 5 years unless I want to remove it.  The big selling point for me was it did not cause negative effects to your overall system so it did not impact any of the above problems and it did not impact weight.  I really never considered the IUD before now but I am happy with my choice.  My fear was weight gain with other options. The website is mirena-us.com

thank you for the website!

it looks interesting. i still have borderline high bloodpressure so i take my meds to regulate that. i can't wait to get off of them!

i love that it lasts for 5 years. i hope in 3-5 years i'll be married and ready to have kids... so that sounds like a great option. i'll talk to my dr. about it. thanks!!!

i take yasmin, which is basically the same thing as YAZ except you get seven days of the sugar pills.  i LOOOOOVE it.  love it love it love it.  my pmdd symptoms are GONE.  and i was severe...to the point of mania and borderline psychosis sometimes.  i did not gain any weight when in started it, and i haven't had any difficulty losing weight while taking it.  it's tiny, so shouldnt be an issue with the band, and i have never noticed any side effects.

that's awesome that it helped with PMDD. i have it really bad, and even my anti-depressants don't help during that time.

i'm going to talk to my doctor about looking at YAZ vs. the merina IUD. both look good - it's just the whole YAZ helping with PMDD that is important to me.

I took Yasmin and it was great, but low dose is not always effective against pregnancy if you are above a certain weight.  That is the question to discuss with the OB/GYN.  Good luck.

Bridget-- I get your concerns about a male DR.  My OB/GYN is a female and she has the Mirena IUD also.  So she recommended it from personal experience.  She opted to have it instead of her DH having a vasectomy.  She must be really nice!!!
