What can I take for pain?
I had Lap Band surgery on 6/21/07 and I am now dealing with a sever tooth ache The Dr said that I could not take Ibuprofen anymore so can some one please tell me what I can take. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, yelling "..........Holy Shit.......... what a ride".
I was told by my nutritionist (in my lap band surgeons office) that I could take medicine that is the size of an M&M or smaller. Usually I cut Tylenol in half and take both halves one at a time. Be careful not to cut or crush time release pills. Obviously they would take affect all at once after you swallowed them - not good.
Tylenol is not as affective for me as Ibuprofen was but Ibuprofen is a stomach irritant so it's a no-no.
How is your relationship with your dentist? If he would call you in a prescription for pain my lap band doctor prescribed my Hydromorphone HCL 2 Mg Tablets to take home from the hospital. They are teeny tiny little pills and they were quite effective for pain the first night home. I didn't need them after that.
Good luck - tooth pain, ouch!

I take 2 of the heart health bayer asprin they are coated for your tummy. I can't take tylenol and have found that this works well for me, I don't take them very often only when I really need them. Good luck with that tooth, If you have any antibiotics in the house , that will help with the pain as it is the infection that causes the pain.

Nice to see another Dr. Brient patient on here! I don't know if you remember seeing me in his clinic or not, but I was there every Thursday for the last several months! I'm his pre-med student that volunteered there.
I had a tooth abscess not too long ago and my primary physician gave me some prescription pain killers while the antibiotic took its time. I don't know if that is what you are dealing with but I was given liquid lortab (hydrocodone elixer). That made me pretty groggy, so Tylenol 3 elixer worked better for pain and didn't have the groggy effects. If the pain isn't that bad, try liquid Tylenol (adult formula can be found at Walgreen or CVS).
I hope this helped!

Oh another thing that helped for a short period of time with that abscess. I used Orajel on the tooth, avoided cold or hot fluids, and didn't chew on that side of my mouth.
