I'll keep this quick.  I'm one week and a day out and I still have nausea.  It's hard to do more than a few bites of anything.  As a result I'm weak and dizzy from not getting enough of anything, calories, protein, etc..  Along with the continued port site pain and stabbing gas pains I'm sitting far left of regretland.   Is all of this normal?  Thanks to all for your responses.

You sound like me 4 weeks ago I also was one of the lucky ones that had lots of nausea and gas ect.... Are you taking anything gasx ect... I don't know why but antihistamines have been helping even better than pepcid for some reason it settles my tummy down. Keep walking and get in as much fluids as possible you will be fine. Diane

I am not sure what medicines you are taking, but be aware that if you are still taking any pain meds they can make you extremely nauseus..especially if you are not getting enough food in your stomach as well.  Other than that, it could be a mix of things from not enough food and acid forming to swelling. If it continues, call your doctor and they can prescribe nausea medicine to help you until your further along.

I am 2 years post op and distinctly remember the pain following the surgery.  I had A LOT of port pain so I myself wouldn't be as concerned about that.  I remember hearing about all these people who would be out at the mall the same day shopping etc. and remember thinking am I that much of a baby.  Then my port flipped and I had to have it reattached and I felt the same pain. My concern for you would be the nauseau because if you do end up getting sick, it is very rough on your new band site. I would call the doctor.  People are right on the pain meds, etc. but it seems to be a cycle.  You don't want to eat for fear of getting sick but then when you don't eat, you still feel the nauseau. Are you able to drink fluids?  Maybe that's part of the nausea?  Did you have your follow up with your surgeon yet?  I'd call him and let him know how you're feeling. For some it's normal to feel weak/dizzy/nauseous from hardly any calories.  I was surprised that I didn't feel like that, I really thought I would, but everyone's different. Hope you feel better.

I was you four weeks ago!  Then at the end of the second week, lo and behold, I felt so much better.  The first week and into the second week I wondered..."Why did I do this?  Couldn't I just be Fat and Happy?"  I did find that warm soup was the only thing I could tolerate, but that's just me.  I also found that I became somewhat lactose sensitive and a protein drink the first thing in the morning was enough to make me almost gag. Hang in there, it gets easier with time but I also know, that's easy for me to say.  I'm finally through it!  Now I'm gripping about how hungry I am and that my first fill isn't until next Tuesday!  If it's not one thing it's another!  But I'm so happy with my healing progress. Good Luck! Liv

I would contact the doctor immediately.   My doctor told me that they do not know what your feeling unless you tell them.  A phone call can make all the difference.  I have called my doctor and gotten in the same day to go over things.   I will say I was one of the lucky ones, I was out and about the next day to a birthday party.  But due to other things, I was able to clear up stuff in the same day. Just think about how great you will feel in 6 months.

I am 1 week and 1 day out. I felt EXACTLY the same way. I called the Dr. and he said "REGRETLAND " is expected. Also Nausea - he told me to stop the pain meds. (liquid tylenol) if needed. I stoped the pain meds and started feeling better the next day!!!! I was able to eat alittle though... I am now up to 3 meals a day and I feel full after 1/2 of what I used to eat.

Thanks to all for your responses and concern.  I got in to see the surgeon today.  He's never seen nausea a week out so he's concerned about a possible bacterial infection, but would like to wait a few more days to see if I improve because it may be that my body is just reacting to restriction for the first time.   It's strange, in some ways I feel so much better.  On the upswing I'm down 17 pounds since the 4 day pre-op diet; but I'm still weak, gassy and tender at the port site I think it's going to be a while before I'm really feeling good. re: the meds.  I stopped taking the pain meds on MD's advice three days ago, but I'm not sure it's had a significant impact on the nausea. Thanks again to everyone, for suggesting the doc and for reassuring me it's ok to still be feeling miserable a week later.

Hi, I was nauseouse for about 2 weeks. My Dr. sent me home with anti nausea medication and If I was late taking that pill I'd feel awful. Maybe you could have your Dr. call you in a perscription. Also for the gas pain they gave me a breathing meter, you can get the same results by taking in a super deep breath of air through your mouth and breath out kinda slow through your nose, they had me do this 12 times in a row 3 times a day. The gas pain was gone in just a few days. I was also weak and dizzy and my DR. told me to drink gatoraid, this also helped me ALOT. Everything you have described is normal and you will be feeling like your old self soon. Hang in there. And remember to get all of your fluid in and walk as much as you can. God Bless, Lyndee
