Anyone else turned off by "Rants and Raves"?

I couldn't agree more - they thrive on being superior?? But the way they act makes you wonder what they are so bitter and angry about - maybe life isn't full of the rainbows and puppies they like to portray? The funny thing is I have blocked 12 people and see no more drama on any board - that is all it took, 12 little clicks and now OH feels like a happy place for good advice and conversation. A few of them have been moderated one or more times but OH keeps letting their toxic presence back on the site. Go figure - Drama must be good for business.

I think it is excellent that the R & R forum exists - it has taken all that vile hatred and anger elsewhere and left ordinary, decent people a forum which they can use without being harangued, criticised and abused. Kate

Hi Bette.  R&R is often the dumping ground for threads that start out very innocently.  A couple weeks ago Naomi posted some very nice progress pics and was viciously attacked by a couple "bandsters" and her thread ended up on R&R through no fault of her own.  Some people start threads over there to intentionally inflame, so if you aren't interested in the drama it is best to stay away from there.  It appears they get really out of control, and it definitely is not meant to be a supportive place.  That being said I think it is good that there is now a place to put threads which become harrassing without allowing it to diminish the true reason of the lap band forum, which is support.  Bandsters are as much at fault for keeping threads going over there as are people from the other WLS forums.  There are drama people, both men and women, in every forum. Glad that it is there so that kind of stuff goes there and not here.  I have never been and never plan to.  I love it here and don't need drama... life has enough without cyberdrama. Just stay here with us and if you don't read it it won't bother you.  It doesn't bother me because I don't read it.  Even if they talked about me if I didn't know so be it.  I don't see why anyone would since I come here to support and for support, but if anyone did it is okay since I wouldn't know.

I must admit that reading some of the posts are like watching a train wreck -- I'm appalled, but I can't turn away.  While the DS battle recently erupted on there again, it was the ISERENE posts that really appalled me.  I must be lucky, because I've never encountered such continued use of foul invective in my life -- including the c word.  I really wanted to copy the whole thing and email it to my girlfriend who's a psychiatric nurse, for diagnosis.  Thank goodness, all the fights now get air-lifted over there.  At least you don't have to clutter up the lap band and other boards with them.

What I don't understand is why people waste such valuable time to argue with people that don't really matter in their "real" lives.   I don't care if someone chooses a WLS that makes them poop more or less, stink to high hell, toss their cookies, who cares, really.  I care about my WLS and people here that I might possibly help. It serves no purpose and OH shouldn't allow it on R&R or any other forum.  But as we know, it's all about the Benjamins baby $$$, and that is why they will let it continue. Michelle

THANK YOU Bette!  I love that you hit this nail square on the head.  I went there for a while at first, but now I just feel dirty when I read the posts.  They are so mean spirited, that it makes me wonder what they are like in real life. This place is good for me - I don't need R&R.  It makes me so angry with myself when I do go there and post, although I have been able to stay away from the worst of it.
