OT: I lost my job today
I lost my job today. More specifically, I got fired. I worked hard, did everything I was supposed to... but had a manager that hated me. I should have seen it coming but I hoped one manager didn't have that much power. I guess she did.
I'm upset because I worked hard, won awards and learned new skills to fill in gaps after layoffs. In return, they told me that I wasn't writing well and told me to "be better" overall. They gave me no tips or advice. So I did everything I could to change what I was doing. I thought maybe because I chatted with other employees sometimes that it was that. So I stopped talking to most people about anything personal. That apparently still wasn't enough.
As it stands... I have no clear understanding of why I got fired... but all I know is I have no income. I am glad to be gone from a place where a manager pestered me at every turn, but it's just not good timing (it never is to lose a job) and I hate having to say that I have been fired.
I'm not one to eat when I am stressed like this... but all I want to do is curl up and sleep for days. If there is a silver lining to this, I have been looking for a job out-of-state so maybe this is God's way of pushing me in that direction. I just hate that I have 'fired' on the record. It was my first job out of college.
And no unemployment for me I guess... I was part time.

Elena:
Your former manager is obviously an idiot and a walking sphincter!!!!!!! Jesus H Christ, as my father likes to blaspheme, some people's ego just can't tolerate youth, beauty and talent. Seriously. I hope you find a new job soon, but it would be sad for the MG coffee group if it is out of state. Good luck and lean on us as you need to.

Holy crap - Do the "powers that be" at channel 5 realize they've got a moron calling the shots in the production room? That's just wrong.
If you can, I would ask for an exit interview with HR, and get your concerns documented on your employment file. You never know, this manager could be on her last leg - and if she goes anytime soon, you just might have a foot back in. If they did not or could not articulate a specific reason for firing you, well, point that out as well. Pretty hard for them to defend firing someone without an iron-clad reason.
I'm so sorry, Elena... but maybe this is God closing a door to force you to find that open window?!
(YOU DAMN WELL BETTER GET TO KEEP YOUR EMMYS!!!)

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
OoO my goodness Elena, Sorry to hear this...but seriously it's there loss and not yours. You said it best yourself you have learned new skills to fit in gaps. You will be such an asset at the next company. If you ever want to move over to the PNW...I'll help put you to work!
