Topic: OK, It's official

I have an appointment with a personal trainer at the Y next Wednesday after my aquasize class. So - I need to find proper shoes before then (I HATE shoe shopping) and some capri length yoga pants, since I expect to be doing some sweating.
The plan is to have her set up a program of resistance training that will help me build some muscle and take off some inches. If the doctors are right I may be stuck with this weight, but I'm sure not going to be stuck with this flab.
The challenge - I can't grip with my left hand, so no free weights. They have lots of machines though, so I'm sure she can figure something out. On the positive side of the ledger, I'm down 45# and am hugely stronger and fitter than I was a year ago - I'm ready for this!
Have any of you had good results with weight/resistance training? I have these scary batflaps and am hoping building some muscle will help somewhat. Also, since the Drs have promised to book me for panni removal in 6 months, I want to replace as much flab with muscle as I possibly can between now and then so the operation will give me maximum benefit.

They generally run $30-40/ea BUT you can buy ones on clearane for much cheaper...AND I always buy mine on sale (sometimes as much as 40-50% off) PLUS they'll fit you for free AND once you find syles you like you can get them NEW off of ebay for less than retail. Finally, I always purchased cheapie bras from Wal-Mart until I realized just how bad the girls had gotten from children...weight gain, and then loss and I was fed up. So I asked around and decided to try out Lane Bryant. They ARE pricey...I won't lie...but they are also worth it IMO. I don't spend a lot on clothes but bras I make exceptions for. They have many styles and designs...for plus sized boobs LOL! Most of their bras have rigid straps which means little to no strech...so less saggine :) I highly recommend the plunge for a great clevage look...or full coverage for the more modest ;) Another thing to note...I have a whole cup size difference in my breasts...one is THAT much smaller :( BUT the new bras I just got (the plunge which I AM new to) make them look as even as anything ever will and it makes me feel good to see them in a shirt and not worry about that sort of thing.

I've been wearing really pretty ones from Penningtons that are mostly cotton, which works super well for keeping the creases dry. Sadly, I've been noticing that the ones I have (42D) are now too roomy in the cup and I'm having to hook them on the smallest hooks right out of the dryer. So - I measured myself and somewhere along the way I've gone from bust 50 and underbust 42, to bust 45.5 and underbust 38.5. Maybe that's why they don't fit anymore?
Hmmm... went to the Penningtons site - the smallest band they carry is a 40, so I'm going to have to find someplace else to shop for bras. (I love bra shopping ALMOST as much as I love shoe shopping)
For keeping your skin dry, you might try what I have to do under my pannis, which is tuck a folded cotton hanky along the crease. It keeps the skin dry, which keeps it from breaking down and getting all nasty/itchy.

I hear ya on the under-boob ointments/creams/powders! Before I lost weight I was rubbing so bad I was ALWAYS raw :( Now that I'm a better weight, and have some AWESOME bras, I don't rub at all. I can't recommend a sports bra...as I was never fond of them...BUT I use cacique bras from Lane Bryant. I use the the plune line of bras and they make the girls look WONDERFUL! The Lane Bryant saleswomen told me "it's like a boob job in a bra" and they did not lead me wrong! Now, if I could only afford a few more...

Getting my life under control, reaching our goals. We all reach our goals in personal ways, right? I find it harder and harder to trick myself though! My old mind tricks with have a cup of tea with a little honey and see if you are still wanting _____ turned into okay, just drink the stupid tea first and then eat the weigh****chers fudge stick. GRRR!
I really think it's easier to have a drug addiction because you can make a clean break. Some people can take medication to help. Some days I wish I had a food allergy or something to make me STOP thinking about food!

When I was fat, I thought the 42DDs made my waist look thinner. Now that I'm getting fit, they are really in my way so much more! Any sports bra ideas? hints or tips? I have to put jock itch creme under the girls I sweat so much and so often!

Hi,
Right now, I only have one shake a day for breakfast. My calorie range is 1180-1250/day. The hospital I attend says any lower just ruins your metabolism and we're working on improving mine by eating every two hours. I have Optifast bars for lunch but I really mix it up quite a lot. Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones are my main food choices, but always under 250.
I'll have a big bowl of cucumber sticks with the black pepper trisket crackers or a 60 calorie cheese stick. I found oatmeal for 100 calories. I do grill and coo****asionally, but I'm not as comfortable with that yet. If I grill a whole chicken, it's hard not to eat the whole thing since I used to eat two and think chicken is healthy! I make a lot of fruit salads, strawberries and walnuts, oranges and pecans, cherries with cashews. Anything easy to measure in advance.
The directions I try to follow is EAT every two hours. They explained it to me with a fire metaphor. You don't want to have a big meal. It's as if you throw a huge log on the fire and expect it to burn. You want to keep the metabolism burning sugar by giving it small kindling sticks frequently. So, numbers. Mentally, I focus on a new lifestyle. I spend a lot of time trying to improve my physical fitness.
I watch Biggest Loser! 16 weeks to a new you and think I've failed. I was 220-230 range and now I'm in the 160s. If I could just give up Krispy Kreme, my body would shrink faster. I find I still have to work in cravings and that puts the weight loss back. About once a month (it's not scheduled, just necessary) I have Chicago Deep Dish pizza slice, a Rocky Mountain chocolate factory carmel apple, or some craving and then get back ontrack and double my exercise to try and compensate. So far, I find the lifestyle manageable. I'm never hungry, but that doesn't mean I don't WANT food and alcohol. I hope that answers all your questions.

Topic: RE: Walking
Kelly-Anne,
To be honest its really hard to say how long it took me to build up to this amount of walking, back before I lost the majority of this weight I would walk about 45 min on the treadmill at the gym at least 3 days per week, A friend of mine and I started walking together this past March on a regular basis, at first we would walk for about 30 to 45 min and then we just got real serious about distance walking and went for it, I cant say how long it took to build up, not long though, the first time we went for a real long distance it was about 4.8 miles and witin the next week or so we were doing 6 miles then a month or so later 8 miles, last week we even talked about possibly going for 10 miles! I have to tell you though after 8 miles I am pretty tuckered out! so i think it may take some time still for that full 10! We have talked about adding some jogging into our routine as well, like every time we cross an intersection jog through it instead of walk, we kinda started to do this on our last trip! I just got the book walk yourself thin by David Rives yesterday, though I dont fully agree with all of his teaching I do agree with his approach to walking, he says walk as far as you can as fast as you comfortably can for a minimum of 1 hour per day, he also talks about this how this changes the fat in your body to lean muscle so what you really want to be looking for is size lost inches, clothing etc... not so much weight, because of the amount of lean muscle you will be building while simultaniously buring fat!

Yeah you!!
Well, who knew that heavy exercise one day could plant Lovey and me on the sofa? We managed some shopping today, and were both grateful that it's raining, since we were both ready to fall over with even that bit of walking. Early bed tonight, then I'll do SOMETHING tomorrow, even if it's just peddling on my recumbent exercise bike. (or a walk in the rain with the wee doggies?
How long did it take you to build up to being able to go on a long walk every day? I really want to get to an hour of something every day.
On the plus side, the 2# I'd gained back are gone again.
