Topic: Home from hospital........thanx everyone!
Thank you, everyone, for your support and prayers.

I was in a psychiatric hospital about an hour and a half away from my home. I was there almost a week. I came home yesterday. I was put on a new medication called Invega. It seems ok, although my problems still exist. That's the problem with going away for a while. You are so well taken care of, that it is often hard to come back to your normal life. I am trying to find new coping skills, as well as trying to find a good support group in my area.

I have found all of you to be a great support group as well!

Thanks again for all your support and prayers. I really do appreciate it. Take care and God bless.

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

So excited for you, Skylar!  I am sorry that the consultations cost $$$.  I am a religious follower on this board, and two OH Plastic boards.  I can't wait to reach goal and maintain then have plastics.  Instead of rewarding with food (old habit I kicked out of bed) I'm going to reward with a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE and a surgeon's help improving my body (getting rid of hanging skin).

Lots of people have surgery anxieties,  you are not alone!  You always have us to vent or lean on!

Hugs!

Hey girlfriend.....you know I can talk about plastic surgery for hours....LOL!
I love your analogy about my fear of flying.   Here's what I've been telling myself........
I put my life in the hands of my surgeon and his surgery team.  I trust him.  I know he and his team are very well trained, experts at their craft.  And so are the pilots and mechanics taking care of the airplane and my flight.  SO for you it's the same.  You are going to do some research on each surgeon you are considering so that you are comfortable with their track record.  You interview them (that's your consultation) and you must ask for the phone numbers of at least 3 former/current patients who had the same procedures as you are having and ask them lots of questions.... finally listen to your gut!  My mom always says "when in doubt throw it out"........so if you are not sure about one surgeon, if you have the slightest doubt about him/her throw 'em out and go with someone else.   If something feels right go for it

You will do just fine.  I fully understand the nervousness I was much more nervous before my first one and even my second and third procedure but at this point I'm pretty much ok with it (but still get a day or 2 of nerves pre-op).

Anyhow, Let me know if you ever want to talk about it.  Early on in my journey I found it helpful to actually talk to people.

I'll be here to virtually hold you hand through the process.

Have a good day!

As many of you here know, I never had WLS because I was afraid to have surgery. Well now with all this hanging skin and getting close to goal and after getting some fabulous posts on my recent post - well I've made appointments to see two local plastic surgeons later this month. I am really scared, LOLand Ihaven't even met these guys.

I also checked with my health insurance plan and they will pay for a panni under certain conditions - mine certainly hangs low enough but I'm going to have to show that Ihave recurrent skin issues for at least 3 months. That is going to be a bit of a problem because up till now the skin is in good condition. However with the heat and humidity that may change.

Now I'm trying to figure out who the third surgeon to visit will be - each of these consults cost $100 so it's expensive and Idon't want to waste my money.

I'm also going to have to deal with my fear of surgery. I'm thinking of pulling the same trick as Ruth did flying an airplane to get over her fear of flying- except Ithink I'll go into an OR and start to remove people's gallbladder. LOLAnyone here need their gallbladder removed? Actually I've been in plenty of operating rooms and even assisted many years ago - part of my fear is fear of the known - knowing all the stuff that can go wrong.

Hi and welcome to our little neck of the OH woods. As far as diets - you have to choose one that you can enjoy and live with the rest of your life - it should just be about eating healthy and not just shedding weight. There are plenty of plans that can do that including weigh****chers - but not slim fast. So plan for the long term and not just for tomorrow.

As far as stress - someone here recently wrote a wonderful post about how she had incredible stress in her life and yet she kept on eating a healthy diet - it helps deal with the stress. I wish I had saved a version of it, it was so compelling. You can't let things like stress knock you off a healthy lifestyle. We all feel stress - sometimes it's overwhelming and other times it's minor. Instead of letting it derail your health, look for better way to handle it - going for a walk, listening to music, talking about it with a professional - find multiple ways to make it work for you.

You can do it and we can help. It really helps to come here every day and talk about your healthy lifestyle.

You know that ole adage, "be careful what you wish for"???  Or this one:  "thank God for unanswered prayer?"  Well, I know people have terrific success with the Lap Band, but I was not one of them.  I was miserable!  Couldn't eat, vomited all the time, and so I turned to liquid calories and didn't lose any weight.  I self paid for that band, but luckily insurance paid to have it removed!  Since I had it removed in November, I started a diet in December and I'm having success doing it "on my own".

I hear lots of great things about Weigh****chers.  I have not heard very good things about Slim Fast.  But do your research!  See what you can implement with your busy work life, and go from there.  I think you can get back on track for sure!

Best wishes!

Hi!
Sounds like all in all it was a good report from your Dr.  SUPER!!

Hey, I have vertigo too.....comes and goes with me.  Did not have a spell for almost 2 years but have been battling it the last few weeks.  UGH..not fun!  Mine is very positional....when I get up from laying down or if I lean over too far when sitting or standing it will send me in a spin.  I used to have really bad bouts with it...thankfully this go around is not too bad.

Just wanted to say congrats on the good health score card....keep up the good work!!

Topic: New to this board and needing some motivation to get back on track!
Hello all!  I am new to this board, and Im hoping if I keep up with this board that I just might be able to get back on track.  I joined this website a couple of years ago when I was in the process of trying to get the Lap Band surgery.  I was denied at the last minute due to the fact that I am bipolar.  Granted, I ask the surgeon many times if this would prevent me from having the surgery and I was told "oh, no, you wont be, you take your meds and you have letters of recommendation from psychatrist and therapist...you are set to go!" Long story short after all the hard work and a whole lot of money, they denied me :( I recently went to another WLS seminar and decided that I am not ready for WLS.  It's a drastic change and I am not sure if I can handle it.  I was doing great at the start of the year and lost 20 lbs pretty quickly as I was eating eating better and going to the gym everyday.  But the usual happened and work got stressful, my dog died, got a stomach bug, went through a tiny depression cycle and pretty much stopped going to the gym about 6 weeks ago.  I really want to get back on track, bc I really enjoyed the gym and the compliments I got were amazing!  Even though I had only lost 20 lbs (I need to loose another 120lbs) I had lost so much body fat from exercising so much, I looked like I lost 50lbs!  Since I stopped going, I have actaully lost five more pounds but....I look heavier because I lost all that muscle that I built up.  I really just need some motivation right now bc I just dont know if I will ever be able to loose this weight.  I can't decide whether to do slim fast or weigh****chers.  I have an extremely stressful job (I love it tho!  I work in a mental hospital with violent teens with special needs) and I am always on the go because I work so much so it's hard to make food.  Sorry such a long post, lol.  I look forward to posting on here often!

Heather, sometimes I just need to re-group. I start focusing on the basics 1st like sleep and eating. Once I make sure my rest and eating are down tight then I work in the exercise slowly.
