Topic: RE: Alli or Full Bar??
Hello Kimberly, welcome to the non-op board. I don't know much about Alli or Full Bar but I do know a li'l sumpn't about weight loss. ;-)
I've lost 131 pounds and I know what it feels like to feel like you have no will power or self discipline. Seems like without that there is no hope of any permanent weight loss. But let me let you in on a little secret, WLS does not teach you self control or will power, that's something you will have to learn on your journey whether you have surgery or not. It may teach you self disclipline, but only because if you eat something you are not supposed to, then you dump, feel miserable, and you learn not to eat that again. I have made friends with people who are four and five years out from surgery who have the same issues with regain that I do and they are dealing with the same issues that you are now. Surgery doesn't teach you anything, it just allows you to eat less...for a while. It also doesn't promise that you will lose all of your weight, just two thirds of it. Once the honeymoon is over, you're on your own, same as you are now.
If I had any tool for you at all is to go through sugar and starch detox, once you're done, it helps you not have cravings. It's not a pretty process and you may feel like crap, but all of the sugar and starch and processed foods you are eating are making you crave more sugar and starch and processed foods the same way that a crack head has to have his dope. While you are going through it, just keep reminding yourself of the years of abuse you have put your body through and the healing process is going to take some time. Be kind to yourself, love yourself, and your body will follow suit.
I find that the best tool is to love yourself enough to take care of the only body you get in this life, it has a long way to go to take care of you.
Best wishes,
Mary

Topic: RE: Food for Thought
For me, I really hated the person I had become and I totally gave up on her. I didn't care enough about her to make the right choices for her, what was the point? It's only when I could have a mental image in my head of the successful healthy me that I was able to do it for THAT me...she was worth the effort. Whenever I was tempted, I'd see the smaller me in my mind's eye and I knew I'd never get to be like her if I ate off plan. Now I'm her and I am so worth the way I feel when I'm eating healthy!

Topic: RE: Dining out while eating healthy
One of the easiest things about eating low carb is that it's easy to eat out. The hardest part for me is my husband telling me it's ok to go off of my diet just this once...he doesn't get that lifetime commitment thing. What I do is list three of his favorite restaurants that I know I can eat at, that throws him off of thinking about me and then tell him it's his choice, the only place I can't eat is Krispey Kreme. He's happy, the scale is happy, which makes me happy!

we all know "diet and exercise" are the key not only for weight lose but for good health. i am new to my lapband and my initial plan is too use my band and a crutch when my dieting efforts fail hopefully that will be few and far in between. in my mind is doesn't make since to get surgery if you not willing to learn to eat properly. so you very well might be able to loose by eating sensibly and exercising. about the doctor thing and the rny---can you imagine be a doctor and the frustrations they experience everytime meds fail their pts with diabetes. so when they feel the can offer what many consider a near cure to the dreadful disease, they are excited and want pts to have that success. i don't think its sinister at all, so much success to you and you be the final judge if you'll have another surgery or not.
Topic: Alli or Full Bar??
This is the first time I posted on this board, actually this is the first time Ive even visited this board. I am at this point in the process of going thru the process for WLS however I still of doing it on my own without WLS. I dont feel that I have the willpower or self disipline to stick to something to make me lose the weight, I feel having WLS will be the tool I need to teach myself how to have self control. IDK maybe im just fooling myself, but I thought id get advice if any of you used Alli or Full Bar or anything else as a tool to help you lose the weight.

Ruth....how long has it taken you to lose the weight? I really have no timetable in mind....just want to keep making healthy choices and get there slow but sure. I am attending meetings...I get a lot out of them. I have done WW many many times over the last 40+ years, but never reached goal. I would love to get to a lifetime membership too. We have one in our group who lost 150lb and has maintained it for 4 years and still comes to every single meeting every week.
I so admire your journey and believe you will keep it off this time. I'm a self sabotager and I think the key for me is believing I deserve this.....I deserve to make healthy choices, feel the increased energy, get off my BP and cholesterol medications and prolong my life. I want to see these grandchildren graduate, marry and make me a great grandmother!!!
