I agree.  I think Hilary made Bill. He has overpowering charisma,  but she's a brilliant woman with a sense of decency.

She was a Goldwater girl. At the time he was considered the most conservative politician out there.  Now he looks like a socialist compared with the freaks representing the GOP.

Sorry you lost me with the total over exaggeration of the soccer mom scenario, since living in Texas for the past 30+  years doesn't bring to mind to many incidents that slightly resemble this.

I totally agree that lax parents are often the stem of the problem when you see minors committing crimes.  Aurora did not really fit into the same category since Holmes was what 24 or 25 at the time of his crimes.  And while you may not hear as many gun related violent acts there was the beheading of the British soldier recently. Crimes are everywhere, look up stabbings in Japan and China.  Hell one Houston woman just received a life sentence for stabbing to death her bf with a stiletto.

Yes there needs to be a stricter guidelines but more so, stricter consequences.

Because a billy club doesn't work in all situations :)  What I don't understand about our gun laws.. well our laws in general, seems that there are often no consequences for making **** poor decisions.  I  don't believe that tons of weight should be give to the ones committing crimes because they came from poor backgrounds, or had druggie parents, or were even born into disadvantages.

If a parents makes a gun accessible for a minor to access then he/she should be held equally responsible for the actions of that child.  If someone attacks me and were to be killed then I really shouldn't have to take into consideration that he had been sexually assaulted as a child and was now acting out.  When American laws are treated with respect then I believe the gun issues will fall more into line....  Simplistic I know.. if that doesn't work we'll break out the scones and tea :)

Hey! I don't now but I lived for 25 years near Newbury, about 20 miles west of Reading. Pretty countryside and houses a heck of a lot cheaper than to the east of Reading. Newbury is a really nice market town - I would lock my door at night or if I went out, but never during the day if I were at home. And I would open the door to anyone without hesitating!  Train straight through to Reading and to London.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

The Reading area.  We will to relocate in June and are looking in Berkshire for a short commute.  Not sure where yet as there are many villages we haven't explored.  I love Henley on Thames but not the summer traffic.

Topic: RE: Guns and Sex

When I traveled to Australia in 1985, one of the first questions asked of me when they discovered I was American was "Do you own a gun?"  It was shocking to me how the rest of the world perceives us.

A lot of it was attributable to American television programs in which people were often depicted with guns.

I have no issues with handguns.   Hell, I live with a gun nut. I enjoy going to the firing range or desert and unloading rounds into targets.  But I have issues with the accessibility of assault rifles.

I hate people who hunt for sport.  There are tv programs that glorify the shooting/killing of game animals. My gun nut loves watching these shows. I understand there's a difference between killing for sustenance and killing for trophies,  but I become physically ill watching any animal get killed.  We had to compromise: he can'****ch "The Killing Channel" if I'm in the room and I can'****ch "The Real Housewives of ..." while he's in the room.

California is very restrictive on who can legally carry a handgun.  Other states are far more lenient.  Requirements vary from state to state. Although I hear the argument often about if everyone was allowed to carry a weapon that it would reduce acts of aggression, I have a hard time believing it. Recently a father was shot and killed in a movie theater by a retired police officer who took offense that he would not turn off his phone. Would the result be the same if no weapon was conveniently available?

I respect that others have different opinions based on their experiences.  I guess I'm just tired of watching school shootings and there's no easy solution that reasonable people can agree on.

Rant over. Please drive thru.
