I have no problem with any type of financial assistance, never cut on that a bit.  I was wondering why you would be on assistance if you can come up with $8,000 for WLS.  It is a lot of money.  If you have it, then you wouldn't need food stamps.  I am in support of helping out those in a time of need.  I would make the same comment if anyone on assistance was having liposuction, a boob job, or having their teeth whitened.

Again, I am not saying you do not need food stamps or financial assistance.  What ever it takes to take care of your children.

i think she also mentioned do not flame her... this isn't a place to be judgemental or rude that wasn't what she was asking!  Let's show some respect, if you're not going to answer the question and have something constructive to say follow the golden rule:  IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY DON'T SAY IT AT ALL!!!

Thank you and Amen to that.  Once I have my WLS (which  I was supposed to get through Kaiser until I lost my job), I have to have my right knee replaced before I can be relased for work.  I have a four-year-old special needs son to raise.  I want to work and miss the satisfaction of knowing what I did (fundraising- mainly grantwriting) helped so many people who couldn't otherwise afford certain types of care for their strokes (I've also worked for City of Hope that treats a lot of cancer patients) and other health needs.  It's judgemental folks such as those who have posted here, that are very likely to reap what they have sewn.  I don't wish this feeling of helplessness on anyone.

Medicaid and Medicare pay for the surgery IF it is medically needed!! I needed it to live long enough to get my degree and be in the position to support my kids.

Just saying what?  As I mentioned to the person below you, I worked for 18 1/2 years paying my taxes just like everyone else.  I got laid off through no fault of my own as well as sustained a significant injury which is preventing me from working.  I qualify because of my disability and income level.  So, for those who are judging me because I'm on Medicaid and food stamps (I don't get TANF- which is welfare cash assistance), the next time you lose a job don't bother applying for unemployment insurance...for that would be hypocritical to your judgement of me.

You know what!! These negative and judging attitudes need to put themselves in other people's shoes before making comments! The economy is tough, people get injured and in my case, asshole men leave their families to fend for themselves. I went on medicaid and food stamps to make sure myself and my kids get what is needed to SURVIVE!! I picked myself up and had my surgery and going to college to better myself. NOT everybody wants to live on the system and damn sure not proud to have to do it!! I come from a working family and we do not sit on our butts and do nothing. I used to look down at the system and people for having to go that route thinking they were lazy but when things turned badly for me, I did what I had to do. If nobody out there likes it then they can take their snobby asses somewhere else to comment. I just hope they are never left helpless and needy because I do not wish this on my worst enemy.
