Does OHIP cover abdominoplasty? Tummy tuck?

Does OHIP cover abdominoplasty? Tummy tuck? I've had 3 c-sections, and now i look horrible. My stomach is stretch out, ugly, hung over, i get very itchy on my scar and it wont heal properly because the scar is covered with my belly, and its awful....the doctors did this to me, and now they wont fix it? (they didnt get me pregnant obvioulsy but they disfigured my body after c-section)

OHIP does not pay for tummy tucks, they do however pay for panniectomys (just taking the apron off), Tummy tucks are far more complex and involve tightening of muscles and stuff, and they are considered cosmetic, not a necessity. You can however, look into the panni though. Not exactly what you want, but will get rid of the fold you have at present. Kellie

Thank you so much for your responses! I will definetly ask my doc about this next time I go in......I have never heard of a "panni" before...do you know where I could find out more information? It seems more like what i need and less evasive...thank you!

Sad but true OHIP will not pay for a tummy tuck only a panni, but if you decide to have a panni/tummy tuck some of the cost can be absorbed by OHIP like hospital stay, anesthetic etc, you might just have to pay the surgeons fee. I know some surgeons will accept this and some will not, it's a matter of finding the right surgeon. Cheers Jen

Hi--I read a post like this a while ago--someone suggested this surgeon: Dr Keith Bush 145 Queenston Street St. Catharines, ON L2R 2Z9 905-685-8400 Plastic surgeon who deals with OHIP I have kept his name on file because the recommending person said he was very good, and deals with OHIP issues in a fair manner. I have heard that if by chance you need a hernia repair, they will pay for the tummytuck. Dawnya (Not that I am wishing for one, just a fact.)
