Dr. Dent in Ottawa?
Hi there,
A lot of folks in Ottawa have gone to Dr Dent. Here's a link to his info:

Hope that helps!
Cheers,

Hi only reffers to RNY and not DS. Some people think he may be getting kickbacks. Optifast is a money grab, it falls into the 98% unsuccessful category.

I am with Ed 100% ...
And i have a few choice words for Dr Dent myself... that i will keep to myself.
I went to see him and when i decided not to follow his optifast program and have WLS (DS) he refused to even see me again.
I was totally turned off by that... and even my GP was shocked that he would not even offer follow up care, don't get me wrong he supports WLS just RNY and although it is a good surgery it was not for me.
Tell your friend to look over all her options, I know before i had my surgery and i was feeling my lowest i was desperate to do anything and i ended up buying every weight loss program out there... except the optifast i said it has to end here and now and thats when i made my decision to have surgery.
Good luck.,
Kerry
Well I wasn't going to go into negative detail but after reading this post again I can't help it. My doc tried to talk me into giving Dent another shot and I said no!!!! No Optifast, Bernstien or BMI Clinic for this chick! I'm done spending tons of money to loss weight only to suffer a rebound! I have yet to meet anyone that did any of those three diets that had any long-term success.

This is the second time I've read posts bashing both Dr. Dent and the Optifast program.
Normally I just ignore this nonsense, and chalk it up to misinformation or simply bad experiences. Today, perhaps because I'm really close to the end of my journey and feeling
a bit more confident in myself, I've got to contribute.
I feel very lucky to have had access to Dr. Dent. I can't count how many times I've read posts by
people here saying their family doctors don't understand them and won't help them etc. How
fortunate are we here in Ottawa to have an entire clinic devoted to obesity? Does Optifast work
long term? I'd be lying if I said it does. However, Dr. Dent is concerned with our long-term health and weight. I had NO problem being referred for WLS, and in fact, they not only filled out the forms for me, they almost always receive approval on first attempt.
Ed, I'm really tired of your negativity towards the RNY. At one point, you referred to us as
having a "herd" mentality, implying we were just sheep who followed the pack into RNY without
any clue or any research. I'm here to tell you that I've done my reading. I've done my research.
Personally, I don't understand DS at all. Why would you want to have to consume massive
amounts of calories just to absorb a mere 20% of your nutrition? I'm having weight loss surgery
as a last resort. Consuming a lot of food is what got me here in the first place. I'm not a sweets
person, but I do need my portions controlled, or I'm in danger of regaining weight no matter what
I do. I'm not rushing off to have a RNY just because Dr. Dent SAYS I should. Personally, I trust
the man. He's been studying the morbidly obese for a long time. The fact that he offers the
opportunity to participate in Optifast is a positive to me, not a negative. The difference between
this program and Bernstein etc is vast.
Sometimes it seems to me that the DS patients try a little too hard to convince us that their surgery is the greatest. I have to wonder why anyone would even try to push one surgery over another. If asked for advice, or the differences or what to expect, fine. Why wouldn't we all just support one another? Do we really need perceived "negativities" about one surgery rammed down our throats day after day? We're all in the same boat. We're all about to have surgery and
lose weight. I came here for support, not to have certain people only speak to certain people -if-they choose the right surgery.
I'd like to say I'm sorry for this, but the truth is, I'm not. I've been reading this crap for too long.
If you would like some positive feedback regarding any weight loss surgery, or some unconditional support, feel free to PM me. Otherwise, I think my days of posting here are over.
Negativity towards RNY? Its more like positivity towards DS and not even so much on this post so you picked a funny time to pounce. Dent is a dick any way you slice it, I know others who have not posted here who were treated like crap because they wanted WLS other than RNY. Holy cow Maggie you really dont get it do you. "Having to eat massive amounts of calories just to absorb a mere 20% of your nutrition?"... LMAO so much for your extensive research, you just helped support my herd mentality argument by being a prime example. You are so off base on so many things that I am not even going to waste my time with a proper rebuttal. If ignorance is bliss, you must be really happy.
