Dr. Dent in Ottawa?

 I really think it's irresponsible to accuse a doctor  of possibly receiving kickbacks without  proof.

"some people think" barely counts as an accusation, its more of a working hypothesis but sure. I like to be irresponsible by sometimes posting unsubstantiated and biased opinions and such, I find its easier to get closer to the truth that way. This is not a court of law, its a discussion board and I am simply passing on the inside scoop. Also that finger wagging icon is retarded, do yourself a favour and stop using it or the retarded may rub off.

If you knew the proper meaning of the word retard I don't take it as an insult because I like to think out what I am going to say before I say it thus  I DON'T LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT.    By the way I miss the part of your signature where you used to  put that you were sometimes a dickhead.   Is that why you were comfortable referring to Dr,. I'm another one who feels blessed to have been sent to see Dr Dent. The Optifast did not work for me but the support and genuine care I have gotten from Dr Dent and his staff has been fantastic.

Not all personalities click and that may be why some people are so negitive about him. He has an amazing amount of knowledge on Obesity and can be a true asset to your journey. My journey wouldn't have gotten off the ground if it weren't for Dr. Dent. I'm so grateful I met Dr Dent.

Ok so maybe I should have held my tongue as you are right I have had a negative attitude with regards to that program and because it's run by him I do tend to lump him in. But then I thought to myself why exactly should I, I'm not saying anything that's untrue.  The Optifast has a poor success rate long-term.  If your above comment was strictly directed at Ed then I will step back and allow him the stage to speak for himself but if not then continue to read.   I was referring to my distaste for the Optifast program which is a big part of his program.  I also dislike the fact that Dent is THE doc that we get sent to for help, advice, hope and then BAM get hit with a program that's thousands of dollars that does not have a good long-term success rate.  Help me help myself but not at the high $ amount when the weight will come back on.  Did you have to pay for the Optifast program before he referred you for WLS?

 

Lucky for those who have a had a positive experience with that program.  Lucky for those who wanted the RNY and receive the support they need from him.  What about those who chose a different surgery?  Are we not as worthy as them? Guess not!!

Ok I don't usually like to get involved in the battles over which surgery is best cause frankly there is no answer but this one I can get involved in. The response that maybe some personalities don't click and thats why people have negative experiences with Dr Dent.... That could be a reason but not in all cases. I for one DID the optifast program in 2003.  Your right Dr Dent was very sympathetic and good with me at that time.  We got along great.  This year when I went back to him as referred by my dr to suggest WLS he offered me the chance to do the program AGAIN... when i said no he didn't pu****  Instead of telling me what my options for WLS were he said right out I will refer you for RNY..  Come back in a month and we will start the paperwork.  Personally I didn't see the  point of waiting a month but whatever..... He also told me about this website thank god... it was a godsend.  During that month I did a tonne of research and determined that the DS was the surgery that suited me best.  They are all good options but I wanted the DS for my own reasons.  (we don't need to go into those cause people take it as bashing other surgeries etc) ... Well when I told Dr Dent I wanted the other surgery he said no.... When I tried to explain my reasoning he kept cutting me off and raising his voice to me... Told me it may be my body but its his conscience if I died on the table... AS IF YOU CAN'T die from ANY surgery.... I am sorry but it is my body and MY CHOICE.. You can't force a cancer patient to seek treatment cause they will die without it.  Well you can't force someone to choose a surgery just cause its the one YOU like best.  he totally talked down to me and reduced me to tears (after I left his office of course).. I left their feeling very attacked.  I went right back to my family dr and told her and explained that I did not wish to deal with him again as I felt disrespected. NOW does that sound like someone who is sympathetic or understanding of our plight?  I THINK NOT. So Dr Dent is not the angel that everyone thinks he is. Sure if you happen to agree with his choice then you will have no issues and he is supportive and great at helping you out (slows down the process but it gets done) then great.... but don't for one second say he is open minded and fully supportive.

People also need to stop saying that us DS'ers are constantly running down the RNY and trying to ram our surgery down peoples throats. For the most part I see people stating facts and sharing reasons why they chose the way they did. Stop the ******g match about which is better.  Its a freaking grey area and depends on the individual.

Interestingly enough, I do feel lucky. Just as any time a point can't be countered with logic, attack the person, not their argument.  Especially amusing is the need to curse and refer to my opinion as a "hissy fit".  I hope any future posters who state their opinion receive a bit more  support, and a lot less attack. On a parting note, here's some food for thought: What is noticeably missing from this forum, are postings by RNY's in any way degrading either a person who has chosen a DS, or their surgery.  What you DO find on a regular basis, are DSer's who criticize, chastize and even put down those who choose differently from themselves.   *shrug* so much for support.

Wrong again Maggie, you came out swinging first.  I have never put the RNY down to people in my field  of work or on this board.  You have made it a point to bash us DS folk.  The thread was about going to see Dr.Dent.  Do I agree with everything people say about the man?  Nope but I have heard that he is not a fan of the DS.  Why did you feel the need to turn this into a DS vs RNY thing?  I have always offered encouragement to others regardless of their WLS.  I find your post insulting and rude but I don't expect you to care.  All I see is you talking about how you don't understand the DS (which clearly you don't lol) and imply that us fishy Ds patients are trying to push people into a surgery for some unknown reason.  (its a conspiracy) Maybe Dr.Dent will give you a sugar free lollipop at your next follow up visit for being his very bestest patient.
