donating skin?
Has anybody heard about getting the surgery for the excess skin removal covered if you agree to donate it to burn victims? I'm not sure where to even begin looking, but apparently a woman who I work with will be doing this. Just a tidbit I thought I'd pass along, in case anybody wanted to look into pursuing it. Let us know what you find out.
I don't know if the claim is true or not, but I do have a good friend who is in the Arizona burn unit. Interestingly enough, they actually put the graft skin through a process that thins it. This way a little bit of skin will cover more area. Given that they "process" the graft skin, I'm thinking the fact that ours may be stretched may not matter too much. Just a thought.

I have never heard anything like that before! Although it would be amazing if they could do that...think about what that would mean for burn victims having to suffer through so many grafts....from other parts of their body. It would be amazing but for some reason dosent sound like anything I have ever heard that they do.
My friend had RNY several years ago and tried to donate her skin when she had plastics. They were not interested due to the stretched/thin issue. She even inquired about a burn unit but was told no.
