The Gastric Balloon is a non-surgical aid in the treatment of obesity. It consists of a soft, expandable balloon which is inserted in the stomach and then filled with sterile saline. The Gastric Balloon gives patients a sense of early satiety or fullness which helps them to reduce their food intake. It can be left in the stomach for a period up to six months before it is removed. Upon removal, it is important for patients to maintain the new eating habits they have learned with the balloon in order to sustain their weight loss.

If Mississauga is out of the question, is Montreal out as well? I believe Dr. Christou does it there and that would be closer to Ottawa.
ETA: It's actually Spa Diva that does it. Dr. Miller maybe ??? Here is the website

Thanks Tracey.
Indeed, Montreal would be my closest option. However, after checking with them yesterday they don't do consultation over the phone, which means I will need to travel to Mtl 3 times (consultation, surgery to have the balloon in, removal of the balloon).
I just can't conviced myself they would not be a clinic for this type of surgery in Ottawa.

I had a gastric balloon inserted in 2006... lost 15 pounds ONLY and it cost 5,000. Both hubby and I had it done.
The surgeon was a terrible doctor when they removed it (6 months you have to remove it it starts decomposing from the acid) . The doctor was impatient and instead of letting the air out slowly like he was suppose to he BUSTED the balloon in my stomache and damaged my stomach.
I would not recomend this gastric balloon to anyone who has lots of weight to lose. If you are looking for 15-20 pounds then maybe The only reason why I lost weight is for the first 3 weeks I couldn't eat. It did not restrict my food intake it stretched my stomach. But I did not gain those 15 pounds back!. If you choose to do this (which I hope you don't) Make sure Dr. Clifford Albert is not the one to preform the insertion and removal. He had partners that were FANTASTIC.
I had mine done in montreal. I'm not sure if there is anyone in Ottawa doing this.
