Thank you Schnookielumps  for sharing your experience.  However, I have read great things about the SWL clinic in Mississauga and excellent results.

Accoring to those past patients, this alternative is normally recommended for those wishes to loose 20 to 50 pounds.  With the balloon in your stomach, it helps you understand how to eat (not what to eat) slowly for the rest of your life, so you should not re-gain all the weight.

I have also not heard good things about the clinic in Mtl....reason why I was looking to read comments about any clinic in Ottawa.....

Once again.... I had this done in Montreal by Dr. Albert Clifford and I would not recommend getting the gastric balloon. --- It did not help me lose weight!

The gastric balloon was the last chance for me before looking into wls.  I did not want to get cut open.  You are better off going on Wegh****chers --- since you will have to follow a diet anyways.

Get names and testemonials.... I looked into it and all the ones I spoke to ... told me not to waiste my money.  "I, thought.... I'll make it work for me, they did something wrong after all I had lost 156 pound before I could do it again!" WRONG!!!  I did not listen and I got it done.  We spent $10,000.00 for 2 balloons and they HAVE to come out in 6 months. 15 pounds lost only because my throat was RAW (I could not eat!) becuase them inserting the 2 tubes down your throat and you will gag and I had bursted blood vessels in my head and eyes and my throat had bruises.  Not a pleasant experience! I couldn't eat for 3 weeks and I was sick!  My body did not want this foreign thing inside.

I have to tell you my story because --- I'd hate for you to feel like I felt and ANOTHER FAILURE to add to the long list of many failures for weight lose.

Good luck on your journey whatever you decide.

I have not heard anything good about long-term results although I know that many have been used in Europe, especially in France.  With the gastric balloon, the patient has the balloon inserted and filled and is supposed to learn new habits that will carry her through her life-time so that she will continue to eat in the manner that she has learned with the balloon.  However, we are addicts who need, IMHO, a life-time of restriction and not simply a stop-gap procedure.

It reminds me of the wiring-shut of some peoples' mouths in the 60s and 70s.  For the time that the device was in place, the patient lost weight.  As soon as it was removed, the patient gained the weight back.

I'd find another way to get your weight off and keep it off.

The gastric balloon is not meant for people that have been overweight all their lives.  Most have had something happen that made them gain weight and they can't lose it again.  Most were always thin and then gained and struggle to get it off so they get the balloon.  I have a friend who had it done and she did very well and got back to her regular weight she had been for years and has kept it off for a year now after the removal of her balloon.
