Assessment Centre wait lists

Hi there - I'm a newbie, and hope to have my doctor refer me to the various assessment centres this month (appt on the 21st). Thanks to all on this board for the wonderful info and feedback! I hope to meet some of you (I live in west Toronto).

I stumbled upon this doc's blog which I thought might interest those like myself who are just starting this big, wild adventure. I'm hoping for a shorter wait time for sure. Waiting a year or more is crazy. Then I get crazier ideas like "wouldn't it be great if I just lost it all myself in a year"? Like that's worked the other 12+ times.

Happy 2010! Hopefully it'll be the year I get my surgery and begin the process of becoming a better me.

Welcome to the board- and I agree with your frustrations- a year waiting list is crazy- sorry- I don't want to get on my soap box- it just really annoys me that this happens- How many people *****ally need the operation who has to wait the year or longer will die before OHIP smartens up again??

But- to be positive- patience is a virtue- you are going to do great!!  Just keep after them- constantly remind them you are there- and ask to go on a cancellation list- there is plenty of room on the bench for you- and everyone else (when Karen isn't lay down sleeping on it!!).

Good luck!
PATS- September 30th 2009

The past is the past and can never be changed, but the future is what ever you want it to be.

Welcome to our group - where you will find the support you need.  We must remember it took longer than one year to get where we got so a little wait will be peanuts to get rid of it.  Best wishes to your success in your goals.

Welcome !  Good luck on your journey.  Unfortunately, the wait may be about a year even with the new assessment centres.  I started the whole process back at the beginning of September.  I'm still waiting for the Windsor assessment centre to call me about my test results.  I was under the impression that once they had the test results, and assuming all was well, that you would go back to get a referral for surgery.  But I just spoke to a woman who went back to the Windsor assessment centre when her test results were in.  They told her she had gained 8 lbs, her vitamin D was low and that she needed to lose 20 lbs before her next appointment in March...  So, I'm not really sure what the process is.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Like everyone else has said, a year wait is not much considering how long I've been overweight.    Keep us posted on your process.  We're all here to listen and support eachother.

I waited well over a year. Ijust had my surgery at Humber, I'm so glad I didn't have to go to the states, I applied to the states being sick of waiting ( I didn't know I qualified for the states) but Humber finally came through at the same time. (I would have went to the states in a heart beat).  From what I have seen is the wait has been reduced already.  I have had a couple of people intrested in "looking in to it". My advice to anyone is get your referral now.  Good Luck and it will be done before you know it.
