Wound infection, Melba toast and Weigh In

What a day so far!  I'm on to pureed foods now and there on my list are two magic words...Melba Toast....crunchy, wonderful Melba Toast!  I'm so happy....I had 1/4 c. cottage cheese with protein powder & and just a touch of mustard, 3 TBSP mushed up ham and OMG melba toast (1 slice)  I think I'm in heaven!

I've been battling an infection of the largest of my incisions and some really wicked pain...turns out the coughing I did with my cold likely popped an internal stitch at the incision site and I have (Thank goodness) a pesky but not seriously bad infection.   A little penicillin and I should be right as rain.

Now the numbers game. I started at 291 lbs, lost 14 on Optifast and then another 9 lbs in the two weeks since surgery! I'm tickled with those numbers...as a 57 yr old lifetime yo-yo dieter, I couldn't be happier.  I feel good, I've had no nausea, no stomach pain, happy bowels and still the weight is coming off and I'm finding it easier to move every day....today we parked 1/2 way across the parking lot to get groceries (instead of being let off at the door) and I didn't ONCE have to stop to catch my breath or lean heavily on the cart to rest.

I looked forward to Melba Toast too! What a difference several weeks make huh? So glad things are going mostly smoothly Mo (except for the little incision issue).

Hi Christy,

I hope you are doing well.  I am curious, aren't you on pureed now?  If so, does your puree not include melba?

I'm actually almost onto soft foods - I start Wednesday! Yay! Yes I have been eating Melba toast - I was referring to the fact that it seems so weird that eating those little sheets of cardboard is such a big and wonderful deal. LOL!

Thanks Christy...I've never been particularly fond of Melba Toast, but it's amazing what a month of drinking your food will do for you.

Hi Mo, you are too funny and I'm glad to hear the infection is clearing up.  The pain must be pretty bad - hope the penicillin clears it up in no time.

I remember when I could finally start eating, what a joy!  Your lunch, I'm assuming, sounds good though I must admit I haven't tried melba toast yet but it does sound like a yummy combination.

You sound like you are recovering well overall and doesn't it feel amazing that you can do more than you could before?  And no side effects, that's wonderful!!!!

Christina.

Hi Christina, yes I feel great (except for the pain) but I know it's going to be better soon, so it's easy to live with. Tonight I'm going to have FISH!

Hi Mo,

I LOVE melba toast. I love cheddar or swiss melted on top! Yum!
