Hi Jan - I have had this problem sometimes and I take a cotton ball and put listerine on it and put it into my belly button for a while, say overnight and dry it out in the morning and that usually takes care of it. I may need to repeat it sometimes.
Hope this helps. Listerine is a very mild antiseptic.

LOL...it must be the season...I never had a problem until yesterday. I went out dancing last night and when I got into bed there was this awful smell...I thought it was my feet from my boots. But then today I was trying on clothes...and still had my boots on (and they were other ones) and could still smell this awful smell...low and behold...my belly button is infected.
What a pain though to have to go to the Dr. when I have an ongoing prescription for an anti-fungal...but document, document, document so I can get the panni covered hopefully :)

Hi - Somethings that I've read is that Olive Oil, Teatree Oil, Rubbing Alchol (burns like hell), or antifungal creams will help clear this up - but came across this info too - they say it could be a cyst around the belly button

The strongest thing you should put in that area is mild soap and water. Alcohol is drying and might damage the skin causing a further skin breakdown. In current wound care practice the standard is not to put anything on a wound you would not put in your eye. cleanse the area well while in shower/bath, then dry it well. If skin lies over the area, place a cotton cloth in the fold to stop the skin getting wet. Antifungals should be used only if a doctor has diagnosed yeast infection.
Olive oil belongs on pasta and salad, not in a bellybutton.
