I find body butter works better then lotions. It is thicker. I put it on right after my shower every morning. I also put 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds in my oatmeal in the morning. Drink lots of water too.
Some people swear by Gold Bond Lotion for itchy skin too.

I haven't had the surgery but I find myself with dry skin as well. So once I'm done my shower I rub baby oil on my skin before I even towel off. I found that it helped and smells good too.

I snuck this question in at my son's dermatologist appointment last week... insane with itching.  She recommended the gentlest, least irritating option is GLAXO BASE.... Both my son and i have been using it for a week and we both have baby soft skin again... Such a relief to not be waking up with the itchies, or the scratches on my body.
She said to use it immediately after getting out of shower/bath and again at teh opposite end of the day.  It is kind of expensive, but i find that a little goes a long way!
