Im on day 4 of Optifast and im starving! Two cups of veg's arent cutting it at all and the water in my city tastes horrible. All that leaves to cut the hunger is Crystal Light and Broth but just how much is a person allowed to drink?

HELP!

Hi - I'm on day 7 and the first two days were awful.  I don't think there's a limit on the amount you can drink, you have to drink two liters of water per day (8 cups).  Hang in there, it gets easier as you go along.  You can also have clear tea and coffee with sweetener.  I find coffee helps....

At TWH we are not allowed any veggies. Only calorie free drinks, broth under 20 calories per cup & sugar free popsicles. I believe I was told a couple servings of broth a day. I have in my mind to keep it less than 50 calories but the fact that I have yet to get the fourth shake in a day makes me a little more loose on that sometimes. My sugar free freezies have 10 calories each. I have also had a cup of diet cranberry juice that has 10 calories a cup.

Im doing the Optifast at 8am, noon, 5pm and 8pm. Im nibbling on broccolli and celery throughout the day but at dinner time im having a bowl (probably 2 cups or a bit more) of lettuce, broccolli, celery and green pepper sliced up with a teaspoon or lemon juice. Im drinking probably 8-10 Crystal Light single serving packets a day...and urinating about 10 times an hour LOL

I really hope that im not overdoing it. I cant see how I would be though.

Believe me man it gets stale really fast! I LOVE raw vegetables and always have but after a few days it gets really boring. No butter or dressing...nothing and when youre 350 lbs that 2 cups does nothing but get the stomach churning and the juices flowing just like an appetizer would.

Im hungry LOL

Where are you having your surgery? HRRH?

At HRRH, you are supposed to have one cup of veges a day only.. maybe you are over doing the veges lol I will soon join in Wednesday and soon will know that is not easy but doable ..this period also teaches you to live with limited amount of food because we will be for sometime after the surgery so take this time to learn how to overcome hunger...I know easier said than done but we really have no other choices after surgery and we should take this time to prepare ourselves for the major changes that are ahead of us

Best of Luck

Hi Zeina,

Yes im also at Humber River. Were actually allowed two cups of vegetables each day and broth which im confused about. Im not entirely sure how much of that were allowed to drink. Im getting different answers. Some say as much as you like and some say very little and the literature provided by the Bariatric center is so vague. Perhaps I should call them tomorrow

lucky you at st Joe's Hamilton its only broth sf jello sf Popsicles Chrystal lite  way to sweet for me decaf tea or coffee with sweetener  so try that then tell me you starving ?  for me i couldn't eat much of the broth couldn't find sf Popsicles the mongers snatched up up i guess  lol and the sf jello well can we say i now hate that stuff lol  so i was nasty, i tried to stay away  for the forums for that reason.

you should be so lucky  to be allowed your greens. i would have been in heaven if i was able  to eat that.
its tough but what is it you want ? an easy breezy surgery or they open you up and when you  wake up in recovery find out they couldn't do the surgery  because your liver was not shrunken enough ? it has  happen, i don't mean to sound harsh but sorry life is what you  want to make of it. no ?

trust me if you really  think opti is hard wait until you have the surgery, its  all not roses and sunshine, watch out for the thorns) its very  hard work I'm not kidding, I'm 2 months out and i still not eating right altho i try food is just so hard on the pouch and you will always go back to basic to see what you can eat ... ** hint ** beef is a killer for me but strangely i can eat hamburg chewed up a million times. i barley eat now and cheese is one i have no probs with at all even tho its constipating in my past i have no probs  now  cucumbers help me with my  BM so i eat alot of that and Shawn i know you have IBS so really keep an eye on that so you don't get that backed up if you have to ask your Dr (GP) for a bottle of lactose colace senicote and get benefice powder start taking that asap after your surgery but make sure you ask first before going home, i was taking all that a week to late got into some major back up so save your self that trouble.

Hang in there !! you will soon be on another new adventure. Shawn drink bottled water or get a Britta filter, tap water sucks large and if you want the added  expense i also use vitamin water the strawberry lemon is my fav i do it in Popsicle molds yummmmmm.

all the best of  luck to you both Shawn and Kelsy, cheers to your new adventure !!!

Have you tried different dressings?    Vinegars have no calories.

Red wine vinegar,
rice vinegar,
balsamic vinegar,
lime juice,
hot sause,

Try adding in fresh cilantro, favourful and almost 0 calories.

Good luck
