Corporate "Down Sizing"

It was said a couple of moths ago and is now being said more frequently. . .it kinda makes me giggle.  I am the only person in our program, I am listed as the coordinator and the caseworker.  I often get multiple invitations to the same meetings because of this listing.  A few months ago I was told that a meeting was mandatory for every member of my department.

When I arrived and signed in I told a coworker, "all three members of my department are here, me, myself, and I"

My coworker laughed and said, "I had noticed that your department was "down sizing!"

Hi Oknee

Glad to read your post, I at first thought that your "job" was being eliminated LOL, so glad that it is not.

A month ago, we were all told that by July 31, 2011 our call centre was closing, throwing 298 people

out of work.

We are losing 10 - 12 people a week.

There are basically only 12 people to a team.  So that means were are losing a team aweek since the
first week in March.  Only employees of 5 years of tenure or longer are getting a severance pay, so

the younger employees are finding jobs as quick as they can so that they don't have to fight for the

next job LOL

I am trying to ride the job out until the very end.  Don't get me wrong, I am still doing my job to the best
of my ability but it is hard going to work each day knowing that each day is bringing you closer to the

end of your job.

Take care and glad that you still are "working all three of you, me, myself and I" LOL

Eileen,

That must be a horrible environment to be working in.  My cousin went through something similar when they were closing Rideau Regional in Smith Falls. . .it was three years of dreading payday because your pay-stub could include your lay-off notice and severance.  She was one of the last to be let go.  She worked two jobs for a long time as they would not "let her go" and she wasn't going to forfeit her severance.

It was tough on her I can only imagine what its like for you

Thanks for your reply and your concern. I really appreciate it.

I have worked there for nearly 10 years and it is probably a kick in the pants for some of us to move on forward LOL but for some of us it is a very hard reality knowing that come July 31 we will not have a job.

The situation also is that we all have to keep up our "stats", in order to be employed and not give the company a "reason" to let us go early and allow them not to have a reason to not give us our severance pay when we leave.

We are always on edge that we may not be hitting the company "goals" therefore not meeting our "stats" and therefore giving them a reason to let us go early.

I will certainly miss our team members, but the actual job I will not miss the everyday stress that goes with the job, so that is why I say that it might be a kick to get some us to make a move in the right direction.  The younger ones will most likely go back to school and get some other type of training to get away from working in a call centre.

I will likely do a semi-retirement and maybe look for a less stressful part-time job LOL

Thanks again for your concern and am sorry to hear about your cousin's situation, hopefully she found a better job that she is happy at.

Take care
