OT- Need advice for baking daughter's b-day cake
I am going to attempt to make the following cake for my daughter's birthday tomorrow:

It uses 2 dome cakes (I suppose I could use 2 flat rounds, but would loose some of the appeal). My question is: Can I make the mixture and then pour it into an aluminum mixing bowl to bake, or do I need to go out and buy special cake tins? Has anyone ever made a dome cake before?? I am afraid that the aluminum bowl might make it taste funny or totally mess with the baking times. Maybe I'll end up with a cake that is dry on top and round the sides, but raw in the middle?? What do you think?

I Marny if it was me making this cake I would simply use two round cake pans. Once baked and cooled place the cake in the freezer till frozen then you can shape the cake with a bread knife (serrated). Just remember that any mistakes can be covered up with the icing. A frozen cake is much easier to work and deal with as it wont crumble when its frozen.
I'm sure your daughter is going to love it regardless....its "mom made" after all,
Good luck!!! and we will all be waiting to see pictures of the finished product

I would advise that you not bake the cakes in an aluminum bowl. Not a good idea. Looking at the cake I would suggest the same as the previous poster that you do two flat cakes and then carve them. Just make sure that they are almost frozen....are nice and cold before attempting to carve them and be sure that it is a serrated knife!
I bet you will do a great job! Make sure you post some pics!
