I heard a week ago that someone's dentist suggested that the high ascorbic acid content contributes to dental cavities.  My friend who has kidney disease has also been told that its sodium content is too high and may push her into failure sooner than later (she currently has renal insufficiency so I don't think this would apply to someone with normal kidney function).  Remember though its not zero calorie it is a minimum of five per serving so like everthing "moderation is the key"

We'll all die of something eventually .. 100% odds.

I figure its unlikely that artificial sweeters will cause me to meet my doom. I really hope its more dramatic and fun when its my time.

We each decide for us based on how our bodies work regarding which sweetners are right for us.Cause sure as god made little green apples someone is gonna do a study saying whatever we do is bad for us... no matter what we do.

My daughter was allergic to sugar, of all kinds since she was 8 years old.  Any sugars made from the earth.  A dietitician told me to use splenda.  I have been using it for over 8 years now, and she and I have had no side affects.

Obviously, I never used splenda to lose weight or I wouldn't be waiting on a surgery date?lol

Go with what the experts tell you at the hospital.

So what's the different between tap water treated with cyrstal lite and plain tap water?

What's the difference between treated water out of a bottle and treated water out of a bottle with crystal light in it?

Hey Tricia!  I drink Crystal Light once in a while, but only the ones that are sweetened with Sucralose as the aspertame doesn't agree with me.
I also water mine down.  I use about 1/2 of the single serving package in a 1litre bottle (sometimes more water) as I find them way too strong for me.
I've been drinking a lot more skim milk lately - this is helping with my liquid & protein intake at the same time.
Do what you feel is best for YOU. Don't worry about what everyone else says (unless it comes from your doctor or NUT).
There are always going to be people out there who are going to find a reason to bring you down - you are starting to feel better about yourself & they are just jealous or want to feel better about themselves by making you feel bad.
Just like the people who think that going through this surgery is "taking the easy way out".  They have no idea what they are talking about!
You are doing great & it will only get better as long as you keep that positive attitude!  :)
Keep up the great work!

My surgeon strongly advocates against artifical sweetners.  He doesn't want us using them post op at all.  Remember Nuts are people too,  they are giving you there opinion on what they have read, not a definative answer. You should listen to them carefully esp in the first year, but you are going ot need to think for yourself in the end.

So i drink sweetner everyday, I need coffee and my coffee needs to be sweet.  I avoid cyrstal lite because post-op it gave me bad gas and cramps, it still gives me gas.  Instead I used an artifically sweetened vitamin water and mix it half and half with water.

I am not sure if anyone has warned you but your tastes change after surgery. I loved plain water before and now not so much.  I was not a huge coffee drinker before surgery, now i drink it everyday.

I would suggest trying some different things,  The herbal ice teas are great, so is lemon water and cucumber water.
