OUCH my belly button!
My GP has asked me in the past if I had this problem because apparently is quite common in obese people. I think it's a baterial infection if I remember correctly. I personally haven't experienced it but if I don't make sure I dry it really well after I shower it tends to be stinky so I;m careful to dry it well.
If the diaper cream doesn't work then ask your GP about it.

Could be a yeast infection. It happens to many people, obese or not. Try some yeast infection cream instead of the diaper rash cream.

it coudl be bacterial, but more likely fungal. Make sure its clean and dry. I often wipe mine out with alcohol after a shower.
You can use some canesten cream to treat it too. Try some hydrocortisone as well, if its really itchy.
also, this shoudl be documented with your doctor, because recurring rashes like this can support your need to have plastic surgery after you lose the weight.

I'm a nurse. what we learned "in the biz" is that you need powder to prevent any rash (except baby powder, that will just feed a fungus if its there, and make it worse. Anything with cornstarch in it)
There's this stuff called "monkey butt" that really works well.
Once there is a rash tho, you need to use a cream to clear it up. Use canesten, works really well.
and like erica said, document it with your doctor!!

Hi Monica,
I've been using the cream as a preventative measure as well. Is this wrong? If I put it on in the problem areas every time I get out of the shower, I don't seem to get the rashes at all. Is that wrong though? Would hate to think I'd build up a resistance or something! That would be my luck.
I used to get them all the time and they were so painful and nasty (and stinky!) but now I don't, and my doctor is documenting every time I have to refill my prescription, so I figured it was win/win...
Your advice on this would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Laura
