Before surgery I had sleep apnea, and within  a week of the surgery I had to give up my c pap.  It was so uncomfortable to sleep with.  So I went to my dr and he said to wait it out a few months and he would do another sleep study.  Well I finally got my results on tuesday.  And I am cured.

Before I woke up on average 60 times an hour ( this only counts the time you are awake for more than 10 seconds I think they said)  and as of now, on average 1.5 times an hour.  Holy cow!!!

then he went on to tell me how proud of me I am , how I took charge of my health and how he had heard many say they are going to do it but never do.  He has been such a great support and every appointment he will spend at least 10 minutes praising me for my hard work and how well I am doing.

I am going to miss him, and told him that I hoped never to see him again, he said he hoped so too but that he was always there for me if I needed him.

I cannot tell you what a great dr he was, before surgery he never made me feel bad about my weight, he just tried to help me deal with my sleep apnea.

So if anyone needs a sleep clinic I would recomend him for sure, and if anyone wants the informatin feel free to message me:)

Hi Sue

that is awesome news. Shortly after my surgery I got rid of the machine and the sleep apnea too. Great feeling

60 AHI down to 1.5? Thats incredible! Congrats!

Youre right about the ten seconds. If your AHI was 60 then you would stop breathing 60 times per hour and each occurence would be 10 seconds or greater.

I'm envious - i got my cpap 6 months AFTER surgery.. sigh... i think i'll go this summer and get retested - i don't feel that hopeful though.
Sometimes the best support  you can get isn't all purple puddles and pink rainbows.

Congrats. That's one of the things I'm very much looking forward to...no more CPAP. What are you going to do with your machine?

I know one of the respirologists at the Civic takes them and distributes them to patients who need machines but have no benefits or means to pay for them. Just a thought. I'm looking forward to donating mine.

I have to pick up mine next week and I am not looking forward to it. Lucikly for me I don't have to pay for the rental because a company in the states is covering it if they can take my data. I'm so miserable at the thought of having this machine.
