Pizza and Wagonwheels....part II

First of all.  Thanks all for both the encouragement yesterday.  I have indeed brushed myself off and am going to have a steller day today.  I have everything I need to succeed, and I WILL get back on track.

Interesting thing though- I woke up this morning to a 2 pound loss.  After stalling for 2+ weeks, I broke my stall on pizza and wagonwheels.  Go figure.  Now....I realize that I shouldn;t go and eat junk everytime I have a stall.  Pizza and wagonwheels are not the new "plateau buster' lol.  What I do think it has taught me though, is that perhaps I was not eating enough, and I should start recording my intake in my food journal again.  Interesting.

Thanks again!

Marny

Hmmm... I'm not a believer in "what I ate yesterday will affect the scale tomorrow morning".  More likely your body was ready to drop a couple of pounds, despite what you ate yesterday.  Anyway, it's nice to see a loss - good for you.

I can't even begin to remember what a wagonwheel tastes like. lol

You know, Marny - I'm really sorry that you had to beat yourself up yesterday over what you did with your temptation.
But I'm kind of glad for myself.
And I know that sounds selfish.

But your story is such an admonition, such a useful warning ... I know I'm a couple of months behind you, but pizza in particular has been waving at me lasciviously, and beckoning to me in such an enticing way - your post will stop me (for a while).

Sometimes a whack upside the head (even if someone else gets it) helps to keep us on the straight and narrow.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

pizza may wave at you but .. ugh..

greasy cheese and pepporini of dubious quality.. you can normally see a layer of grease on it.

Over doughy bread

it might seem like a good idea .. but over a year out it sits in my stomach like a rock.. a rock that rolls around and makes me feel ick.

Its one of those foods i find way better in the "thought" than in the reality

yikes that tempted so early on.....I hope that you pick yourself up and throw the bad pre-surgery food to the garbage soon....

you aren't that far out and shouldn't be reverting back to old eating habits and items this early on.

I hope that you have better control than (I) would...even at 28 months post op I only eat pizza maybe eveyr other month (thin crust only) and luckily fo rme sweets are NOT my thing....

I hope that your stall is indeed broken..and not a fluke of what you have eaten.

Get back to the plan before it's too late~!!

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!

Thanks for your concern.  Yes, I have done just that...moved on.  I have followed the rules very well for the last 5+ months, and this was a minor blip. Overall, I have found it actually pretty easy to stick to the rules, and I have 104.5 pounds of weightloss to show for it, so I know without a doubt that I will immediately and definitely get "back on the horse". I was tempted, I gave in, but now I am back on track.  I am not going to say that it won;t happen again, because i am not perfect, but I know that I can recognize it, and not let myself get away with it, so I will be okay.

I'm with Karen - often when I eat something "BAD" (I hate labelling food that way, but I will today just so you get the idea), I don't see it on the scale that day.  But a few days later...BLAMMO!

However - I do think it is important to track.  Too low calories for too long messes up your metabolism big time.  And I don't think shocking your body with a super binge every couple weeks is a good idea either.

Find a good calorie range for you (probably 1000-1200 calories a day, lower in carbs and fat, higher in protein) would work well.  Use something like MyFitnessPal.com (also an iPhone/BB app) to set those goals in there and track diligently.  Count foods you "sneak", condiments, milk in your coffee etc.  And try to stay consistent.

If you want to "mix it up" to get things moving, stay in the same calorie range, but mix up your carb/protein/fat ratio.

Thanks for the great advice Erica.  I didn't neccesarily mean that it was the "bad" food yesterday that broke my stall and that I will binge to break my future stalls.  I just wondered if it was the added fat or calories that gave me boost to start loosing again.  Maybe it is true that you don't see what you eat on the scale the next day, and I was due to loose it anyways...I'll let y'all know if the scale goes way back up.  LOL.  Besides the fact that the two things I ate had no good nutritional value for me, I know without a doubt that I did not go over my calories and fat for the day.  I went back and logged everything (checked online for the facts about the pizza, which was B****hin crust).

I definitely think I will start journalling my food again.  It helps me see things more clearly.  I did this religiously for the first 4 1/2 months or so (calories, fat, carbs, sugar, protein), but have fallen out of the habit.  I think I have been eating so little fat lately, that my body has been in starvation mode.

I guess we'll see what happens, but it is clear to me that I need to track in order to find the balance of cal/fat/carbs, that works for my body at this stage.

Wish me luck!      :D  Thanks again.

You are exactly right there.  Getting out of the habit of tracking was bad for me (and got me about 10lbs back in about 6 months!).  It was bad mentally as well - I I often beat myself up for eating stuff - when probably it wasn't even that bad...got me in that real "diet" and "poor me" mentality.

Tracking keeps me honest and on track.  If you didn't go over your calorie goal, then you shouldn't even beat yourself up.  Not a good choice for every day - as you need to keep you protein goal in mind as well....but not a bad "off" day.
