Thanks Karen,
So far this is proving to be one of the best decisions I've made and I just love this site I don't post much but I've learned so much from you guys.

I had my surgery in Hamilton Mar. 16th and my surgeon was Dr. Hong.  I met him briefly in the OR just minutes before going under.  I recovered very quickly from the surgery, have had no complications at all (touch wood), and have lost 70 lbs in 3 months.  I am very happy with my progress.

I also thought all the staff at St. Joes was really nice, and I was very impressed by Dr. Hong's visit the day after surgery to check how I was doing.

I had my surgery out of St. Joe's with Dr. Hong, on Dec 9th, 2011.  To date I have lost 108 lbs, and am doing great- no complications to speak of.  My experience at the hospital and with the program was great.  I waited about 8 months in total, which I think was very quick.  I do have to comment though, that this was just before the central reg.  My file never got sent there.  It went straight to the clinic at the hospital.  Someother recent changes that i have heard of since the time when I had surgery is that:  a)  The no longer keep you in for 3 full days.  The discharge time is shorter.  Perhaps someone more recent can comment.  (b)  They no longer do the swallow/leak test the next day after surgery.  Just some things to consider.  Also, as compared to some other programs, I almost never saw Dr. Hong.  I saw him once at the surgeon's appointment (15 min.), and then again in the OR.  All of you aftercare (barring any complications), will be handled by the nut. and the nurse at the barriatric clinic.

All in all, it was a very positive experience for me.  The program is (in my opinion), very well organized and the staff are very friendly and helpful- especially Krista who handles all the admin.  I found her very efficient.  She always returned my phone calls quickly and was always plesant to talk to.

Good luck!

I was one of the early ones to go thru the St Joes program - April 1, 2009

Fantastic experience from start to finish - Google Dr Anvari and you will discover that he teaches this and other robotic type surgeries around the world

You are lucky to be in the Hamilton program IMO
