I'm Home!

I had a great experience at St. Joe's in TO. Dr. Lindsay, the Residences (sp?) and the nurses were amazing! I was the first surgery of the day for Dr. Lindsay and my anethesiologist was Dr. MacGregor (an older man) all dressed in tartan. What a sweetie. My OR nurse and Dr. MacGregor walked me to the operating room where I was introduced to everyone that would be there for the surgery. Dr. Lindsay was there as well and he had already searched me out twice before the OR room. I got on the table, the IV went in and that's all I remember... When I woke in recovery I didn't think that I'd had surgery - I was groggy but no pain. I was wheeled to a semi private room where my husband was waiting, he said I could keep my eyes open but that everything had gone really well. I stayed in the hospital until this morning but never did get a roommate. The pain was minimal, moving out of bed was a bit uncomfortable but I survived. I did have some dumping on Wed after supper as they served tomato soup and cottage cheese and they just did not sit well - very hot, fidgety, nauseous -- yuck. They gave me pain killers and gravol and put me back on the original menu of juice and jello for Thursday. Thurday morning I had a bowel movement (I know TMI) but it was very black and there was a lot of blood. PANIC! I had regular blood work done - they watched my hemoglobin and tracked my every move to the washroom and talked to me about a possible transfusion. By Thursday late afternoon they decided that all was well and I could leave Friday morning. Walking the halls and frequent rests were very essential to my feeling well and recovering. I am a little anemic now - nothing I have to worry about - but Dr. Lindsay says to rest often in the next few weeks. So it is sip, walk, rest for me...
My journey has begun and ALL the waiting was worth it. An almost 2 year wait really didn't seem that long when it was all said and done so hang in there everyone, your time will come.
