Hi fellow  members, has anyone had bone density scan   post  surgery ? I had one today and now Im wondering if  the stapels that are left  in could they cause some injury during  the xray  scan . It was a low density scan? I'm rather concerned !

The only time you have to worry about metal is with an MRI as it uses magnets. For scans no worry there.

I had an MRI post bypass and my staples were not an issue.  I made sure to let the ER doc and MRI tech's know about it and they all assured me that there would be no problem.

They imaged from my neck to my tailbone so they went over the area where the staples were.

Agreed - after my gallbladder surgery I had to have an MRI, but had to wait 6 weeks due to the titanium stitches used in the removal.  After that you are fine.

How do they do the bone density scan? I missed mine and have to reschedule.

Your primary physician just sets up an appointment for you at a testing place. (I usually go to the building at Howard & Te****eh).  It takes usually no more than 20 minutes. You just lay on a table and they position you all different ways and then boom, done.

Is it an xray? Do they have weight limits?
