One Month Out - update

So I just on Monday had my one month surgeversary. I spent it at the hospital. I posted over a week ago about not feeling normal and dehydration. I ended up going twice to the hospital in Ottawa into the emergency and they only admitted me once and did a CT scan, said they found nothing and gave me the boot.  I even spoke to one of the bariatric surgeons there and he  didn't really have a whole lot ot say to me. Finally, still sick I decided to make the drive back to Dr. Klein in Toronto. I went on the sunday and they did a scope on the Monday and not really all that surprising to me with how bad I felt, they found I had a stricture. It was the size of a pin hole. They dialated it, and then because of whatever reason, probably with all the stress of everything I was still sick for a while and ended up staying at HRRH for about 8 days. I'm feeling great now though I had my first soft/pureed meal today and things are looking up. Unfortunately I'm really disappointed with Ottawa civic hospital, the whole matter probably could have been dealt with here. Oh well, alls well that ends well I guess.

So glad you made the trip to Toronto.  Not sure how you did it when you were that ill and nutrient deprived though.  Impressive.  I hope all goes smoothly from here on out.

Very glad you're doing well, but unfortunate you had to go through what you did.  I sure hope nothing like that happens to me - it's a long drive from Thunder Bay to Hamilton!!

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I asked Vivian the same question and asked if she would take on the roll as an advocate for those who have had RNY and are in Thunder Bay.  She said definately and they will send anyone with complications back to Hamilton ASAP if need be via air ambulance.

Glad you're feeling better. It's great that you were so proactive - I'm sure it saved you a lot of long-term damage/issues.

That totally sucks that you had to drive back to Toronto but I am so glad you were so proactive in your own health care.
Many times we have to explain our case to Doctors who are too busy and tell them what we need, in order to get things done, so good for you !!!

I hope from here on out that you have nothing but great NSV's and please keep us updated. Wishing you all the best !!!!

That is so frustrating that Ottawa didn't do a scope!! And you spoke with a baratic surgeon!! You think that would have been the first thing he did.

I am so happy that you got the help that you needed and feel so much better. I'm so sorry for the drive you had to do. HRRH know how to take care of their patience apparently.
Take care.

wow, what a crazy beginning.  Very glad you decided to make the trip.  We were probably in HRRH at the same time, I checked in for surgery on Wednesday, Sept. 14th and was released Friday, Sept. 16th.

Very happy things are looking up...keep us posted on your journey.
Did it affect your school at all?

Hi,

Glad you are feeling better, I am so sorry that you had to go back to TO, but truthfully they are amazing, I met Dr Klein too when I went back the day after I got out, he was so nice made me fell so much better.

I have to call Ottawa today to set up my Dr follow up appointment here in Ottawa, who was the Dr at the Ottawa Hospital who dismissed you I want to make sure I don't ask for him.

Thanks Sue
