OT (long) I am feeling miserable! (Updated)
Oh no!! Respiratory infections are horrible. I usually get bronchitis about once a year and if I am not careful, sometimes it turns to pneumonia......but thats my own fault because I dont get it treated soon enough......so please dont wait!! I hear ya on the denial thing, so you know yourself that it wont get better on its own!
Good luck and sending you all kinds of healing type energy!!!
...and hugs (with a mask on)!!

Hi Marny,
I really feel for you. I've been having the same problem since July. I got a second cold in September (germy university students back at school!) and that made it even worse.
When my kids were little, I had it once for a year and a half. It was only when I had my gallbladder removed that it stopped quite suddenly. I think it may have been because of the codeine pain killers they gave me and/or the fact that the acid reflux/gall bladder attacks had been further irritating my airway.
Currently my doctor has given me antibiotics, novahistex (codeine cough syrup) and advair which was eventually replaced with ventolin, and I'm still having trouble. I haven't been at work for an entire week since mid-September.
On the bright side, I'm sleeping much better the last week, so that's a great improvement.
Hope you find some relief soon! Wherever you decide to go, please go right away! You shouldn't have to suffer!
Sharon

Marny...from someone who does cough all of the time too...never a smoker...and I don't have asthama, (although I was treated for it)...please get it checked out!! I would go the respirology route as well. I have had countless breathing tests, even right before my WLS!! at 8 am in the morning...guess they just wanted to be sure, 'cause I only have one lung. I sure wish someone could tell me why I still cough..so I am very careful in getting the flu shot, and the shot for pneumonia...can't afford that!! Good luck in finding out what is wrong..Patti K.
Whenever I get a cold now, I get something like bronchitis ... like a virus related asthma. At least, that's what the doctor at the sleep clinic told me it was a few weeks back. He said that too many GPs diagnose bronchitis without considering virus related asthma. Whatever you want to call it, I get it. First the chest, then up to the sinuses, then back down to the chest. Loads of coughing and difficulty breathing (and I have a 112% lung capacity). I get the double enjoyment of a sinus infection at the same time. Lucky me!!
I've been on Advair for years (on an "as needed" basis), and my DD also has this condition (she's on meds as well), as well as Nasonex.
I wouldn't wait to see the respirologist (or whatever he's called). If you GP does work in an after hours clinic, I would go there ASAP (even if he's not working). Get something to help in the short term. Plus get this on your GPs records as well. As comforting as it feels, tea etc. really doesn't do much medicinially for you. And stop the 'steamy showers' as you're really just making the congestion worse. I like to put Vicks on my chest, throat and under my nose - more of a childhood comfort, I'm sure, but it makes me feel better. (And hubby loves it so ... not!)
The longer you wait for treatment, the harder it will be to get rid of it. I learned that the hard way.
Good luck.

Beth

Have you ever discussed Reactive Airway with the respirologist? My husband gets this after a cold and ususally needs bronchodilators and corticosteriod inhalers to make it stop. This is basically 'temporary asthma' after an infection. The idea of being temporary is somewhat controversial as some doctors prefer to simply call it adult asthma, where the only symptom can be coughing and can come and go.
