lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathy?
Now there's a mouthful eh?
I have it and just wondered if anyone else did pre op and if it was reversed when the weight was lost or if the damage is unrepairable.

I developed this earlier in the year and was suffering daily with the burning pain and sudden sharp stabbing, my GP said it was caused by the excess weight pressing on the nerve.  Since I have lost some weight the burning has stopped and the numbness is much less.  I am hoping that it will be completely resolved when I lose more weight.

I have had this for several years and for me it has gotten better. I find that massage therapy really helps. I am down over 100 pounds now and my back pain is getting much more managable. Along with that some of the feeling has come back. I am sure some damage has been done, but the burning pain and pins and needles are nothing to what they were.

There is hope!

Best of luck on your journey,,
Kristie

back in the old days, when i was gaining weight, i used to get pins and needles in my legs, and thought i had something neurological going on. I was kind of scared. Then i bought bigger underwear. seriously...

sigh. i know its not the same problem you have, just wanted to inject some humour.

Never heard the technical name for it as my doctor simply told me I had fat-entrapped nerve syndrome.  I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes without total pins and needles in my thighs, followed by burning pain.  My skin would become totally numb to the touch.

Since shortly after surgery, I have not experienced this at all.  I really noticed it at the Remembrance Day service...in previous years, it was agony to stand still for that long, and I wouldn't haven't even been able to fidget because I was up front herding Cub Scouts.  This year was completely different.  I don't miss it at all!

I am having to be careful now as I used to have sciatica and a few other issues and as the weight comes off I'm moving more and my gait, posture etc. are changing, so I'm prone to muscle spasms as I head toward a new norm.
