Nerves
If you've been reading this board for awhile, you've probably noticed that the vast majority of patients have a successful and uneventful surgery. There are very few reports of problems - the worst I've seen is the odd few patients having to have a second surgery to fix a leak (and they've all reported being just fine after that). I've never read of anything more serious than that. Of course, with our grandmother having been one of those very few who have a serious problem, it's understandable for your mom to be worried for you. Do what you can to reassure her and calm her fears - the more she knows the better she'll feel. I think it speaks volumes that your grandmother is in support of you having this surgery. Even after everything she went through, she knows the benefits far outweigh the negatives that occur. It's only 4 more sleeps until it's all done and you're on your way to a long, happy, healthy life! Give your mom a hug and tell her it'll be all fine!
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I can totally relate to your fears! And its especially hard when someone close to you had complications. I feel that way every time someone tells me about someone they know who had a complication. It seems you are %100 in your decision so think positive! We all know that there are small potential risks, but theres a reason why everyone on here is so supportive- because its life changing! Good luck!!!
You would not be normal if you didnt have fears. This is a life changing surgery. I'm just about 7 weeks post (WOW time goes fast). Had pain at one port site for about three weeks, would it have stopped me no way.Down about 56lb since Opti, so much more energetic, pain in legs almost gone would do it again in a heart beat.
Sounds like you have done a lot of research, and have your family support which is so important. Think if we keep on with the way we are/were going we would have so many more health issues we would not be happy.
This time next week you will be home and wondering what you were so nervous about. Anticipation is our worst enemy. I wish you all the success you deserve for a better healthier you.
