Post-Op Day 5
Hello Everyone,
It has taken me awhile to get back to the forum and update everyone. I was reading the updates from my iphone, but couldn't remember my password to log on.
Surgery was on Dec5th at TWH. I was scheduled for RNY, but after they went in, a decision was made to do the sleeve, due to the state of my liver. Surgery was good, hospital stay was not so good, for a variety of reasons. I was almost ready to go home on Wednesday, but my pulse was high and my oxygen saturation was low, so they kept me for another day.
Now that i am home, I feel sooooooo much better. My sister is here to take care of me (retired nurse) so I am in very good hands.....
She takes me out for walks every day, making my little meals, so I am very grateful she is here...
Pain is almost non-existent and each day gets better...
I lost 15 lbs on optifast, gained about 4 lbs in the hospital and just weighed my self now, and have lost the weight i gained in the hospital, and anothe 1 lb.
Right now, I am very pleased with how it all went!!!
Since i had the sleeve, was wondering if anyone who has had the sleeve, have eating guidelines or are they the same as the RNY? I am folloing what i was given at the clinic for RNY, and so far no troubles. I welcome any comments or experiences others have had with the sleeve...
Thanks!

Your experience sounds the same as mine, other than the wanting the RNY first and having a helpful person to take care of you once home LOL
But I do had probs with oxygen and I was kept in for five days.. but I was pretty much pain free other than when I eat it or shift.. it hurts a bit.
As for your diet, I would call your clinic and speak to your nutritionist..thats what I did since I had all the rules for the RNY and she said there is small differences and that I could go to my full fluids a week early and then also only have one week on that til going to next stage instead of the 2 weeks clear, 2 weeks full and 2 weeks soft., so basically just a week in each stage.
Hi Filomena, thanks for asking.
I have cirrhois, which was one of the main reasons that i decided to go with the surgery. I was referred by liver doctor, who advised that if I lose weight, it would help my liver functions. I have good lab results on my liver.
The surgeon explained why they did the sleeve instead of RNY. When I signed the consent forms and met the surgeon in October, they now put the two options on the form. At that time, he didn't think they would not be able to do the RNY, but i guess once they took a look at my liver, made the decision. He actually told me that most surgeons would have closed me up and not done the sleeve. But he felt it was a good option to do for me.
I'm glad of that, because i think i would have been very depressed and disappointed if they didn't do it.
Liz
p.s. no questions are silly!!!
