Sleeve - anyone know their "size"??

This came up on another thread - and it's always been a curiosity of mine.

If you have or are getting the sleeve - do you know what size your sleeve is/will be??

A couple years ago when I was researching my sleeve and reading the OH boards for advice, sleeve size was a hot topic.  A few years before I had my surgery, surgeons (in the US - it wasn't done in Ontario then) made the sleeve with a 40+ FB (French bougie - a long tube they put down to "measure" the size).  They used this size for both DS and VSG.

Eventually, they found that the sleeve was too big for a VSG patient, relying on restriction alone.  So surgeons began making smaller bougies (usually 30-34FB) and then oversewing them (which is supposed to make them 1-2 sizes smaller).  With this, it seemed that the sleeve patients had WL similar to an RNY patient.

Now that OOC is gone, it seems like I never see discussion of bougie size any more.  Has anyone asked?  What are your thoughts?

Last appointment in Utica I asked for my surgical report.   It'll tell you all you need to know.  Even tells me that he decided to go back and shorten my intestine after he had already cut and sewed it.   Karen said she asked, and I got thinking it might be a good thing to have on hand.

 Erica,

Mine is a 32F, oversewn and I wouldn't want it any bigger!  One thing that we have to keep in mind is that as skinny as it can be at a 32F, it can be longer depending on your height.  I know my surgeon said mine was small but fairly long as I'm almost 5'8".  I guess its a good thing because when you think about it, a 6'4" guy does need to eat more that a 5' women. so this probably evens the playing field.

Bigger isn't always better, LOL!

ETA  I am eating more, but probably just grazing  .  I went out to lunch with my daughter yesterday and she was blown away by just how little it takes to fill me at one sitting, so I don't think it has changed any at over 2 years out.

While I was doing all my reasearch prior to applying and recieving my sleeve, I always heard people talking about bougie size.
When Dr. Pereira-Hong approved me for the sleeve, I was too excited to ask her what size she would be making it.  Of course while I was being discharged when she asked if I have any questions, it completely didn't occure to me to ask.  When I got for my first post-op appointment with her, I will be sure to ask her.

I posted this on the other thread where we were chatting about this, but I thought I'd mention it here. Dr. Hong told me that a 40FB is used across the board in Ontario. So I'm curious whether anyone has been told anything different from any VSG surgeon in Ontario?

I heard from another patient that Dr. Penner uses a 50....    I would have liked a smaller sleeve, to be honest.  I find I feel  the sensation of the food touching the 'sides' of my sleeve whenever I have my first 1-2 bites of food, but then don't feel the 'restriction' aspect until I've eaten quite a lot compared to what I thought i'd be able to eat.

I find I really have to be careful with my portion sizes....although I do generally folllow the 'rules' of protein first and 80/20 - I've been sliding in December, both with food, and exercise, so I've got to pull up my socks again!
