Don't know how some of you do it..
Handle the taste of the protein powders..
I have tried it and the only thing I can handle it in is a shake but only if it's loaded with other flavours.
I tried it in my morning yogurt twice now, even added some SF jam, then some applesauce but nope can't get it in.
And the no taste no smell thing.. ya right!
My hubby classifies me as a "supertaster" meaning I have exteme tastebuds as well as the smelling sense. Hyper senses I guess.
Anyway getting my protein this early out is def a struggle with me.

Good luck!! It's definitely tricky at the beginning.....I was NOT a fan of my RNY the first few weeks, thats for sure.
Add oozles of ice, making it really cold does help too. Try adding a packet of splenda and a tablespoon of powdered milk. This are all things I tried and reallyl helped me. Now I actually enjoy my shakes and it does make life easier. Please don't think I'm being too harsh on you Ruby, I'm just very concerned for you.

Try different ones. If you don't like them, take what's left back to the store. Most will trade or refund you.
And like the poster above said, it's an absolute necessity to get that protein in, especially so soon after surgery. Treat it like a prescription - if you don't take it, you won't get better (and in fact, you may end up worse off).
Good luck.

MY RNY DIDN'T FAIL ME - I FAILED IT.
I'm with you about the no taste no smell thing; so-called "unflavoured" proteint powder sure tasted like something (and not something nice) to me too! I opted early out for vanilla powder, skim milk, strawberries and ice (in a blender) most of the time. Vanilla with milk and crystal light is tolerable too. And the Wieder mango splash is ok too. I haven't found one that I actually enjoy, but have certainly gotten used to the Premier shakes. I add decaf coffee and 1/4 cup of skim milk to 1/2 shake for about 100 calories and 18 g of protein.
Good luck finding something you can tolerate.
Hope you enjoy the holidays!

I found the best way was to add the unflavoured protein powder to tasty soups (not hot more than 130 degrees Farenheit). Then I didn`t smell it or taste it.
The Costco Premier Proten pre-made Chocolate Protein drink was tasty but it still smelled. Added more ice and put a lid on it. Made it palatable.
Good luck in finding what works for you.

Then when I went for my second appt I met with a different dietician and she was much more reasonable in explaining she tells her patients that if they can't get in the protein in the beginning stages, then supplimenting was ok in her opinion and she even offered me some packets of beneprotein to try.
She also sent me an info pack a week ago on VSG guidelines and had sample meals in it that included protein powders in the equation. Also had a list of suitable powders to use.
I'm eating more soft foods now, like the yogurt and some pureed chick, tuna and cheese.. but it still doesn't get me anywhere near the amount of protein they want me to consume. So the powders are helping with that.
Thanks for the help.. I have been doing ok when they are in shake form, if I add masking things like the coffee flavour but if I do fruit I was leary of adding too much of it for fear of all that extra sugar. I have a few dif flavours to try still but I have two large jugs that I opened and do not care for one was 50 dollars!!. I bougt them at Fortinos and I'm pretty sure they wont do an exchange or refund once open.. heck they wouldn't even exchange an unopened one I had that was past the expirey date and I had just bought it only weeks before not noticing it til I put it in the pantry. I no longer had the reciept so they woudn't do it. So ya doubt they'd do it for a jug of opened with no reciept.
