For those thinking about WLS and cruising on here, I noticed this AM that I joined OH on December 24th of last year - with a BMI of over 60.
I had surgery in mid February, and today my BMI came in under 30 for the first time - making me finally just overweight instead of obese +++++. It's been a great year, with few difficulties for me and a good adjustment physically and emotionally so far. My life has been transformed. I am a much happier person and am enjoying life in a way I never dreamed would be possible at age 60. I am so glad I went down this road!
Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks for sharing such an unbelievable journey. I had my surgery at TWH on the 20th of December and feeling great.
Did you ever think you would crack 200 lbs? My reason for having this surgery was completely for health reasons and bad genetics. When I started optifast i weighed 288 pounds. 3 weeks and 2 days later I am 263 and off all medications. I can't remember the last time i my life i weighed under 200 pounds...must have been under 12 years old.
What were your weight loss expectations before surgery?
So happy for you!
Harold

Hi Harold!
Did I ever think I would crack 200? Heck - getting under 300 was great!! Then, under 250 seemed like it would be the ultimate goal. Breaking 200 was honestly a little hard for me to fathom - I hadn't been under 200lbs for over 30 years! Now 170 is in my sights.
My goal now is to be a certain dress size rather than a weight because I don't think I'm a very good judge anymore of what weight I want to be / should be. I'm getting a little boney in spots according to my daughter, but there are still lots of excess pounds hanging around, so a dress size (size 8 - 10) seemed like a good way to go especially with the "bounce-back" issue once maintenance starts. Right now I'm a size 14, so maybe another 25 to 30 lbs.
So pleased to hear about your success. It really is a wonderful experience and a life giver.
All the very best

Hi Melissa
I'll be there!
My post surgery fav was unsweetened applesauce mixed with Bene Protein powder (unflavoured) which my husband used to mix up for me and we called "Ian's Special", and unsweetened jello. I had tried protein drinks and purchased a 2 month supply of my favourite before my surgery, but my tastes changed post-surgery and I thought everything except the applesauce tasted AWFUL - way too sweet. I lived on mint teas and applesauce for quite a while, lol, but this eventually passed.
Hang in there with the Optifast - it goes by more quickly than you will expect. See you soon and happy new year!
Claire.
