coffee...caffienated or not?

Has anyone else started drinking regular coffee again post rny? Any thoughts on this?

I've been having my one cup in the am as normal and have not had any issues. I drank it black during opti and I started back very slowly with regular coffee post surgery (about 125ml at a time) and now I'm at roughly 200 ml with a splash of milk in the am. Can't say I have any issue with it, but just curious if anyone gave up caffiene after their surgery altogether?

HI Sarah,

I don't drink coffee everyday anymore as I just don't enjoy it as much as when it was double double.  When I do drink it, I have started to have regular caffeinated coffee again and I have one cream and one milk (plus sweetener).  This way I don't feel completely ripped off by only having milk.  I believe this is the only caffeine that I ingest.  I have no problem with the coffee.

Happy Weekend!

Some centres never allow it again, others have no problem with it.  I'm glad that mine was ok with it!  I generally mix my grains 1/2 decaf, just because I like it that way, but have no problem drinking an extra large regular when I'm out.

I stayed away from caffeine for several months after surgery. I wanted to make sure everything was really healed up well. Caffeine can also be hard or irritating to the stomach.
Now I have 2 cups a day with Lactose free half and half.
I really do love my coffee.

I drink it every morning, 2 cups of half decaf, half caf, with one half scoop of Syntrax Cappuchino and milk. I also drink a ton of decaf and occasionally a mid day coffee as well. No issues, though i have found that I have become very sensitive to evening caffeine of any kind. Any caffeine after 5 and I'll have trouble sleeping.

At 2 months out, I wouldn't be having caffeine; too much healing left.  I started having 1-2 cups per week around 6 months out.

Yeah, I made sure to check with my surgeon before going back on it.

I see lots of people say "no issues yet" but the penalty for drinking caffeine is not one that necessarily presents itself after each cup of coffee.

As recent post-op I'm following the directions of my centre and sticking with decaf. It hasn't killed me yet, but an ulcer would sure ruin my day!

Caffeine doesn't cause ulcers. This is has been definitively determined in medical studies I've posted on this board several times. It's an old wives tale that won't go away. This is why TWH does not restrict caffeine intake at all; not during optifast and not post-op.
