GOING ON VACATION!!! Need advice for travel post-op :) And suggestions of fav....
So, My hubby and I have decided to go on vacation for March break (without kids- YAY!), and I am beyond excited. We haven't vacationed since our honeymoon 12 years ago. Last year, I would have had to seriously think about this. I would have wanted to go, but I would have worried about having to squeeze into airplane seats, not being able to handle the heat and sweating that would occur, and also, not wanting to try some of the activities (eg. hiking and kayaking). I feel so free to enjoy this and can't wait.
Now for the questions. The last summer clothes I bought were aprox. 50 pounds ago? What do you do when it's March, and you have no summer clothes to go on vacation with?? I think I may have a maxi dress and a skirt, but that's about it. I did buy a new bathing suit and saw some dirt cheap but really nice ones at Costco, so I will probably invest in another. Do they have summery things out in the stores in early March? Funny thing to worry about, but I tried on some of my stuff from summer, and it def. does not fit.
We came across a really nice place in Jamaica called "Jewel Dunn's River Resort" and it got awesome reviews on Trip Advisor.com I'm not to sure on Jamaica as a destination though. Has anyone been? Does it feel safe? Not really keen on Mexico at the moment, and Cuba either. Any other suggestions under the $5000.00 (for 2), mark??

Grenada is absolutely stunning, the hotels there are all inclusive and come with your own butler.
You can go for about 2600/2700 including all taxes fees and such..thats the price for 2 by the way!
I can not recommend it enough.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are not too picky on your clothes you could try Value Village, friends, and I believe they should start bringing out Spring clothes anytime soon. Usually after February. Have a wonderful trip.

If you wait until the end of January, early February, the stores start to get their "cruise wear" or so they call it because they know lots of people go away for March Break. I was at the mall today and saw some really cute spring dresses and outfits at American Eagle. I'm not sure if that's your style but you could check them out and at least it shows that things for the warmer months are coming out in the stores soon....
As far as a destination, I've heard good things about Jamaica, not specifically that place, but still good things.
Hope you decide on a nice place and enjoy your trip!

Speaking of cruise wear, have you considered a cruise. It's our favourite thing to do, and our best one was aboard the monster ship Oasis of the Seas. Absolutely fabulous, and worth a try if you've never done it. You can probably do 2 for around $3000 including air, maybe even less!
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

Wow I guess I spoke too soon on the price. Turns out they no longer offer the butler service and the price has gone up, its about 3900 for 2. But honestly I would pay it. We stayed at LaSource! Depending on when your March break is and what day you plan on leaving and returning that may go down by a bit.
I know that internet bookings are all the rage, but may I also suggest calling around to differnt agencies..before I started in IT I was a travel agent and we would try and beat those prices... I hope you get a great deal nomatter where you go.
Have a wonderful holiday!

That sounds wonderful for you and the hubby! We have been to Jamaica 3 times and love it. That saying, we stay mostly on the resort and go on tours arranged by the resort, just to be on the safe side. We also love bob marley and his music, which you will hear a lot of. Dunn's River is a wonderful place and if you go you have to climb the falls. One thing about Jamaica is that it is a large island, with a rain forest in the middle, and they grow many fresh fruits and vegetables, and have the most wonderful blue mountain coffee. The drinking water is great because it comes from the mountains and is lovely and fresh. Smaller islands don't always offer the same quantity of fresh fruits and veggies since they have to import them. I have done a lot of shopping over the past few days and the "cruise wear" and spring clothes are out in the stores. I don't remember where you live but we have a few fabulous "upscale" consignment stores here in Durham, (Pickering & Whitby) and they are great to check out too.
good luck, and enjoy wherever you decide to go...
Grenada is a lovely island, known as the Spice Island and they sell baskets of spices everywhere. It smells so nice because they grow nutmeg and cloves all over.

Very exciting! I think I'm going to Jamaica March break as well! So nice to just be going on a trip and not worrying about airplane seats, sweating, etc. I love Jamaica. People are lovely!
I would wait until mid February or start of March to buy summer cloths. You will start to see summer cloths coming out in Feb and March!
So happy for you!
