Healing time for skin removal?
I was just reading your post and I was just curious.. when are you planing to have "skin removal" surgery?
I only ask because you are almost 5months out. I was curious to know costs this time last year and I went to see a PS. He told me that it was really soon after my RNY and he felt I needed to wait.
He was concerned that I wasn't quite at "goal" yet even tho I felt good where I was and the dietician deemed me as being "at goal weight".
A year later, I am now 20lbs lighter then when I went to the PS. But the difference is- I'm maintaining now.
Just "food for thought"

For that you are right, I' not planning at all yet, especially reDing that some require a one-year maintain before doing any kind of excess skin. I only asked the questions now so I can prepare myself better. Also to repond to someone else, I do understand that I will not be having "ALL"surgeries at once. It might take a few years.

my surgeon stated she would only do (1) of the quadrants at a time, therefore panni/tummy tuck would be (1) procedure and the breast list/reduction and lipo for arms would be a separate one
for the panni/full tummy tuck she said 6-8 weeks recovery....I also am at a sedentary job...but I would think that even lifting large binders or doing 40+ stairs several times a day would result in exhaustion.
as far as scarring, you should ask that question directly to your surgeon...and request some before and after pics, Not all plastic surgeons do the procedures the same way...mine doesn't like doing the barchioplasty as a surgery, she apparently has had really good results with lipo and toning..but that's her...
From the list of questions you have asked, one can only ASSUME that you are having all these procedures at once..in that case I would highly recommend that you go for the full time that is available to you for recovery..because that;s a whole lot of surgery...just think about what it will be like to get up and do a simple task as use the washroom...
not to mention that depending on what you are having done, you will require some after care such as a nurse, coming to measure your output of fluids and checking your incisions, change dressings etc..it's not 5 little holes poked in you like the RNY surgery, that's for sure.
All the best...

Thanks for your reply Mary, and the tips....and no, I am aware that I will not be getting all surgeries at once, I do understand that it might take a few years to have everything done...people offered advice on how to burp, how to place the baby to sleep.
I always accepted everyone's advice thanked them....and then did
WHAT I BELIEVED WAS BEST FOR ME and MY BABY.
all the best in your journey ahead

If you spend a bunch of time reading the plastics board (I've spent almost 2 years reading over there) you'll see that MANY surgeons will do more than one quandrant at once. To me, that's a kind of silly "defining" limit.
For example, most knowledgable surgeons wouldn't do a thigh lift and an LBL, even though those are in the same "quadrant". The reason being that, once you've lifted things with the LBL, it can seriously affect the placement and "staying power" of the thigh lift scar - particularly the "upper" thigh lift or cresent type scar.
As well, many WLS-experienced plastic surgeons don't like to do a breast augmentation with a breast lift...because of how things "settle" with all that skin issue. When I've seen them placed, they often are put under muscle (due to lack of tissue) and end up sitting VERY high if done at the same time. And those are certainly in the same quadrant.
I've also NEVER heard of anyone being happy with lipo for arms post-wls. As a matter of fact, many of us *****ach goal have very little fat left for lipo - other than in small pockets of problem areas at times. Most of us have stretch marked arms (hence the "crepe paper look), and that will only get WORSE with the removal of fat.
My advice to you, Mary, would be to get a few more consults with surgeons with a lot of post-WLS experience. It really is a different ball-game. And you really want to take to more than one (or even two or three) surgeons for advice.
And if my dr. told me to take 8 weeks off after my tummy tuck/brachioplasty - I would have laughed. And then LOST my mind. By 8 weeks I was back running 5k's and lifiting weights. It is a good thing to keep in mind IF you have serious complications (like wound infections etc.) - but for people with no issues, that would be overkill IMHO.

While I choose not to name her on her and would request that my private message be kept to yourself, all I will say is that she has LOTS of experience and I have seen the before and after photos and the medical information to know that she is extremely qualified in her field and also recognized and able to practice in the USA.
The fact that you have been reading plastics board for over 2 years, doesn't change my mind...and while I appreciate you taking the time to post your experiences it doesn't even give reason to re-think any of the decisions or comments I have made.
as far as you would "laugh" at a doctor recommending a patient to take 8 weeks off.....that was her recommendation and not necessarily something that is written in stone and I am confident and glad that my plastic surgeon has my best interests at heart.
Just because you were back running 5k's and lifting weights, it is not something that everyone can do and please remember when people post they choose not to always state every aspect of their life that might have resulted in the surgeon making that recommendation (ie other pre-existing conditions)which may result in a longer recovery time.
I am glad that everything worked our perfectly for you and you have no complaints or criticisms and that you had a wonderful recovery..I can only wish that is the case for everyone who takes the plastic surgery journey...but unfortunatly it is not always that way, and I have heard countless stories at my monthly support meeting to know that in the 4 years I have been attending these meetings there are good and bad in every experience.
I have said before with any surgery/procedure, we SHOULD not paint the canvas with the same brush..everyone is unique and they have to do what works for them and they have to be happy with the decisions that they have made.
