What a pwerful show!
Tonight I watched "My 600 Pound Life-Melissa's Story", and though I know other have already commented on the show, I still have to say a big "WOW" That woman has been through a whole lot. It was so powerful to watch and listen to her talk about many of the same feelings and worries, successes and failures, that I have also experienced along the way. What a real and honest portrayl of what this journey is really like for many people.

I finally got a chance to watch it tonight as well. I had heard mixed reviews on it so I went in with reservations.
I did feel for her and it was unique to see 7 years presented over the course of roughly 80 minutes of footage (after you take out the commericals). Although it's a little difficult to relate personally to some of her more key struggles due to being a male (primarily body image and pregnancy).
I am glad things did work out fairly well for her in the end, and I sincerely hope she is steady with the weight today. It's sad when you hear about someone who did so well re-gain weight due to depression and other mental health issues after the fact.
I'm sincerely looking forward to the new episode on Wednesday as I maybe able to relate a little more this time around.
The first episode in the series was extremely well done and did not sensationalize obesity and WLS as is sometimes the case.

It is hard to see the regain, but it is a reality for many people. Still, getting down to 157, having a baby, and settling back at 214 is a far cry from her previous 600+ pounds. I felt she looked and sounded happiest at about 180 when she was working as the patient support person fo her doctor, and leading the support groups. There was period of time where she looked too thin. I think even with the weightloss, the years of extra weight really took a toll on her body.
I certainly agree that she looked her best at around 180lbs.
Anything is certainly better than being over 600lbs, as I can attest too. I would certainly dread being over 700lbs again. Right now I am content with between around 500lbs as I am much more mobile (something Melissa experienced after dropping over 100lbs), and feel somewhat normal (I don't have quite as much to deal with regards to body image).
Watching her require multiple surgeries to remove skin had me a little concerned, although I did not suffer from fat/fluid pouches (technical term is alluding me), and I don't think my skin is quite as problematic (at least for now) as her's was.
I found it neat to see her meet with the teenager that TLC or Discovery had done a documentry on earlier. Although I wish he had been part of this series as I was intrigued with his story having seen the documentry prior to my own surgery.

I was very pleased with the honesty in the show. I also believe that it is a victory for wls in general as it showed just how much she had changed and improved healthwise as well as with her mobility. It also, very honestly showed that wls doesn't fix everything, including your marriage, some of your bad habits (like coping with stress using food) as well as a short time, where she was underweight, as well as the regain. The problems with extra skin was also very honest and transparent and I give kudo's to the producers on this one. I would also like to thank her for sharing her journey as I'm sure it will help many others!
