Update on me
RNY on 02/02/12
So happy to hear from you Darren. I was thinking about you today and wondering how things were going. I'm sorry you've been having a few issues but, in the long run, I'm sure you'll remember them as small bumps in the road.
I have no advice about the hernia but I had a similar experience with the Tylenol. It's not sugar free so Dr. Gmora believes I dumped on it. Why they give it to bariatric patients, I have no idea. My reaction wasn't as severe but it certainly wasn't pleasant!
Sorry about the shart on the sheets. At least you have retained your sense of humor. (And I agree that the ladies at Mark Preece are awesome.) I left some SF jello there last week. Try and fini**** off for me, will you? :-)
Take it easy and keep us posted on your progress.

Ahhh dilaudid. It is also known as hydromorphone. I had it when I had my surgery and loved how it knocked me out about 30 minutes after having some. When I was discharged the medication I was prescribed was the hydromorphone and I took it in pill form - so small and very easy to swallow..
All the best with your recovery post surgery. Safe travels home too.

"Fart the tune of Star Wars"????
LOVE IT!!!!
When I had my hysterrectomy a few years ago I had to fly to Germany for a family emergency.
I had similar pain to you now, and I used every convenience the airline offered - including use of their wheelchairs, VIP lounge, foot rests - the works. I used their pillows to apply gentle pressure on my incisions - that lessened the disconfort. Tucked them under the seatbelt against my belly.
And of course I asked for the extender belt.
I'm really glad I called the airline ahead of time - it was almost like they were proud to demonstrate all the bells and whistles they could provide.
My advice - go for it. Ask and ye shall receive.

Hi Darren,
It is good to hear from you. I'm sorry that you are having such a tough time, but glad to hear that otherwise things went well and you are healthy and able to head home soon.
At this stage in the game, every day makes a difference, so you may be slightly more comfortable to fly on Friday. Just keep working on sitting upright while you are there (but don't push too hard) and use your pain meds regularly. It will make a big difference. Also talk to the airline and let them know about your surgery and that you may need some extra assistance as well as the ability to keep your chair reclined, even though I know they don't recline that much. I would also suggest getting one of those heating pads that you can microwave, or a ho****er bottle. Fill it up with really ho****er in the airport and take it on the plane with you. I found that heat really helped to ease the pain some after surgery. It of course won't do any miracles, but it did bring some relief. Try to time your pain meds so that you are taking them about 15 - 30 minutes before you board the plane. That will give them time to take effect and will also ensure they are in full working force by the time you get in the air. You might also want to ask the doctor about a sleeping pill or relaxant just so that you can maybe fall asleep while flying and not have to worry about the discomfort. Even a gravol might help...those things always knock me out.
It is good to see that you are in good spirits though and your humour is still in tact! Even though I felt bad for the pain that you are going through, you still managed to make me laugh out loud as I sit at work and read this.
I hope you feel better really soon! Take it easy, follow the doc's advice, walk as much as you are able to without wearing yourself out, keep attempting to sit upright, sleep when you need and keep your fluids up. Good luck!
