I came across this information while surfing the internet and I was kind of surprised. The calorie intakes seem kinda low up to the first 6 months. What do you think? How many calories were you eating during the first year?

Studies have shown that weight loss after gastric bypass is a result of lower caloric intake. The pattern of intake and weight loss is also known.

Hmm.... yes, it does seem rather low, you're right. I never counted calories, but considering I was taking high protein shakes, etc etc, at 2 weeks I would think that my calories were likely double what they've listed. Interesting.

Well, speaking as a St. Joe's Hamilton patient, the protein drinks alone that we must take for the first 4 weeks are more than that. I've been taking 3 boost diabetic a day (each one is 190 cal) for a total of 570 calories. Add on to that broth, and sugar free popsicles in the first to weeks, and oatmeal and cream soups the next two weeks. So, this list is totally wrong for what we are told to eat.

It seems really low to me as well. At less than 600 calories a day I do not think you would heal post op. We also have a malabsorption component to the RNY so if you only took these calories in you would not be absorbing enough to maintain health - never mind heal from major surgery.
