So I was diagnoed today with a badly impacted bowel. I haven't had a bowel movement in quite some time despite my best efforts to do so....in the process I earned myself a fissure and some hemmroids. Lucky me huh? Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Can you tell me if you were able to fix it?My doctor told me to do a Fleet enema tonight at home and call her tomorrow if it doesn't work. Has anyone used one of these before? Should I use the saline or the mineral oil? Please help?

Wow. I don't have any advise to give, but I have worried about something like this happening to me too. I have to force it out after not going for about 3-4 days at a time. This is very trying and often painful, and takes a long time to achieve success, and often resort to a laxative to get things cleaned out. Developing a fissure is something I fear. Please keep us updated on your progress. Best of luck.

add some bran (the bran used to make muffins, not all bran cereal) to your yogurt every day, at least 2 tbsp, work up from there. Your bowel movements should be the consistency of a banana. Please take a stool softener or something, get things moving softly and more often. also take a stool softener. Laxatives should not be relied on.

YES,and all well before WLS so it is not to blame....I have IBS ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome and not Inflammatory Bowel Disease which is IBD)...and yep... and yep.... and no, not cured by WLS...it is sttill with me....So drink your water and more, walk as excrcise is good to stimulate bowel movement....and be sure to get your roughage.

However you may be at a more serious stage of bowel impaction, and before surgery is needed to avoid an exploded bowel ( and the fact you could die from scepticimeia, so very serious), be sure to try to solve the problem as quickly as possible with medical advice...go to the Emergency at your local hospital as it is very serious.......

I guess because my son was young they did it in the hospital for me so I would not have to do it on him, but he sure filled the toilet, be prepared.
I had to give my Mom one last year and we used the water one. Part of it you should try to hold it in for a while to let it work. So squeeze those cheeks. It's a tough thing to have to go through.

I use Natural Calm regularly to keep me going. When I don't think I am going I up the amount I use. It has been a great life saver here in Nicaragua as there is rice in our diet every day. You can buy this at health food stores.

Hope you get some relief.

Ok, so you're post has me concerned for 2 reasons.  How could she just send you home and not help you further!  That worries me.  The second reason is I'm having some problems in that area too.  How long has it been since you had a bowel movement?  Sorry I hope you don't mind me asking...I'm suffering from lower abdomen pain and thinking I might be in the same boat.  At least with one foot in..lol

She didn't just send me home.  I was in her office for quite some time and the plan we came up with was that I would try the Fleet Enema at home on my own and if it didn't work tonight I would call her first thing in the morning.  I have been taking mineral oil and senokot-s for some time now trying to get this problem fixed - she even prescribed me a liquid compound that I had to get at a medicine making place...we have been actively watching and working on this problem.  I suspect that if the Enema doesn't work I will have to go have the impaction manually removed.   I haven't had a bowel movement in nearly 2 weeks.

please don't ignore your lower abdominal pain. Please don't ignore constipation. both are signs of a bowel obstruction. which is an emergency, life or death situation.
