Abdominal pain
Over the past 4 - 6 weeks I have been having random pains in my abdomen on the left side. I have an appointment on Tuesday to get it checked out but I was just hoping to get some feedback here. For anyone that's had a bowel obstruction or kink, what were your symptoms? Did it start off with strange pains that would come and go? Did it hit all at once? Was there any fever? Did your bowel movements change? Thanks for any replies everyone :)
I just had a twist in my bowel last week and had emergency surgery in Guelph to have it fixed. My onset was very sudden one minute I was fine and the next in pain. The pain was beyond description anytime I ate or drank anything it was deadly, to the point that I was keeled over in agony. It started on the Friday night April 13th and I just lived with it over the weekend. went to my family doctor on the Monday and then to Guelph to see Dr. Reed Monday afternoon. He ran tests, and admitted me into the hospital and that night I was in the OR. Please don't wait get it checked out. I am home now and recovering slowly. As bad as it was it could have been so much worse. Take care of yourself.
I had emergency surgery for a herniated bowel two days ago. I've been having abdominal pain on and off for months now. It ranged from discomfort to a deep ache (like someone was squeezing my guts) to unbelievably severe sharp constant pain. Make sure you stress at the hospital that this sort of thing is a post-WLS risk and push for tests immediately. In my case, they didn't find it because the bowel would twist and untwist; by the time I got in for tests, it looked normal again ****il it strangulated this week!). I had no fever, but did have nausea. Take this seriously, any abdominal pain needs medical attention right away. I hope in your case that it's just constipation!
Good morning. Thank you for the replies :) I appreciate the feedback. I went to the hospital last night to get checked out. They did an xray to rule out a blockage in my small intestines and then did at CT scan to check for an internal hernia. Both tests came back negative but they said that they found some swollen lymphnodes in that area that could be causing the pain. I have to follow up with my family doctor, (I already have an appointment booked with him for Tuesday) to schedule an ultrasound. I truly believe that it's the beginning of a hernia so I will make sure to stay on top of it and not ignore the pains. I have a hard time believing that swollen lymph nodes have been causing these "attacks" over the last 6 weeks. My gall bladder is fine, my liver is fine, they didn't look for ulcers but apparently my symptoms don't jive with an ulcer. I think that's about it. They sent me home because according to the tests I wasn't in any immediate danger. Thank you for the concern and the advice, I really appreciate it :) :)
Wondering if you are developing IBS ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome)...often when coupled with diverticulitis it feels like "appendicitis on the wrong side".
If you have gelatinous or mucous enveloping little balls of feces,, which announce themselves as though they are going to be big stools, and you strain and push and the little bits come out all fuzzy with mucous (sorry TMI) some the size of peas, others the size of larger "commas" you may have IBS which ca n cause dull "generalized toothache like pain" in your lower gut, and left side is typical.
Not a risk for cancer of the gut or intestines, but still can be very painful with sudden onset, nd may need antibiotic treatments (Ciprofloxacin 500 mgs twice a day for up to 7 days)....be sure not to load your colon with solid food, stick to liquids like soups and yogurts for a few days until all pains and morning bloating and lots of flatulations ( passing wind) are over...
