RESEARCH!!!

to play devils advocate here for a second....( I did do more research than I care to talk about)
However almost all of my knowledge came from reading articles, asking questions and common sence. The "diet outline" I got from my centre existed of exactly this you will be on full fluids 2 weeks ( almost nothing about what this consisted of) 2 weeks of pureed foods again almost no info, and 2 weeks of soft foods with no guidance.
I know I have to get 60-80g protein and that for the first 2 weeks I should be getting 2 tbsp of "food" every 15 minutes. That was the extent of what I was taught.
So I completely understand why people have simple questions. I went through this whole thing in less than 5 months from orientation to surgery. So yes it has to land on you to learn as much as you can, but not everone has the tools they need to do that.

I'm new and have asked some questions (isn't asking part of researching??) someone had to answer the question in the first place. I read, read, read constantly...and have considered, and reconsidered this surgery for about 5 years.

I get that its annoying to answer the same questions a million times but I always take the benefit of the doubt...perhaps they can't find the answer or down know how to research well.

So here is a tidbit for the ladies and gents that don't know where or how to look...at the top right of your screen you will see a search bar. If you type in there what you are looking for other previous posts will come up and you "should" be able to get your answer. Generally every question has been asked before.

Yep! I totally understand that "asking is part of researching".

At the same time, "So here is a tidbit for the ladies and gents that don't know where or how to look...at the top right of your screen you will see a search bar. If you type in there what you are looking for other previous posts will come up and you "should" be able to get your answer. Generally every question has been asked before. " is also VERY useful; as well as google or other search engines.

Absolutely agree...there are a LOT of ways to find what information we need!  I wonder...does anyone know how to get a sicky note that stays at the top of the forum?  Perhaps we can do a "frequently asked questions for Newbies" and perhaps a few people can get together and compile a list of those questions and have the tag FAQ: Read here first!

Then at least if there is a question that is asked that has already been answered 20 times they can just be referred to the FAQ at the top.

Just a sugestion!!

Nobody but OH can sticky items to the top and they won't allow threads we think are important to be stickied.  Those posts are for their use only.  Many have asked over the years and always told the same thing.

Lorraine posted a bunch of links of info that had been accumulated just yesterday and a lot of it is outdated info.

I HATE that search function! I can NEVER find what I need without wading through tonnes of posts. I rarely use it anymore and Im really not surprised others arent using it either.

That said, OH isnt the only place for research. There are tonnes of resources available. I researched the surgery for 5 years before even hearing of OH.

I understand where you are coming from BUT on the other hand I understand why some of the basic questions are being asked... do a search for optifast... you get thousands of hits and rather then sorting out those thousands just to find out your question was not answered and by that point I am asking myself... what was my question again?...

also programs change... My boss went through Guelph just 2 short years ago.. she did 3 weeks of opti before and 1 after... she was shocked to find out I didnt have to do opti after. Also I am among the first group at Guelph that was given Vit K... so maybe with the change and evolution of programs questions and their answers will change.

Google is an OK resource but the programs in Canada are SO different then in the USA... and you will get a lot of USA responses whe using the search function here too

I personally am one that needs that comfirmations that what I found out is what I understand it to mean.

I haven't been here as long as you wonderful people who have been on the bench for a while, but man oh man do I appreciate the patience of someone answering my questions that you must have answered for hundreds before me!!

I think it's part of the process for most people to ask what might consider "unresearched" questions, but it can seem like a new language when first getting involved.

This site would be nothing without all the vets and experienced ones answering and encouraging us with posts.  So I think it's a great time to say
THANK YOU!!!!
