Yay swimming!! And a question about swimming for those who are experts out there.
Marnie, at Centennial Pool and sports complex (on Burhamthorpe near the Etobicoke border) is an excellent swim shop where you get specialized gear for comptetitive swimmers.
I found they had better swimsuits there, which chlorine wouldn't destroy.
And they sometimes have good sales.
IMO, it would be worth checking there for a really good swimcap, because the ones that fall apart easily wouldn't be worth what you paid for them.
And I agree with the leave-in conditioner or mayo treatment - my girlfriend used to put an olive oil pack in her hair one night a week, and sleep in saran wrap-and her swimcap.
The result was that her straw-like ash-blonde hair stopped breaking, although it stayed fine and delicate. It also didn't lose any MORE colour.

Working as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for years and spending over 40 hours a week in the pool the best thing I can recommend is to put a leave in conditioner in your hair just before swimming and use a shampoo and conditioner called ultra swim after your swim it will help get the chlorine out
Hey Marny,
I'm not personally a fan of swim caps (they feel too tight on me) so I usually just wash my hair really well after swimming. I really love this stuff when swimming in a chlorine pool. It works great and the bottle isn't too big to keep in your gym back: Loreal Kids Swim and Sport 2 in 1. Then I like to use Moroccan Oil to put on afterward to recondition my hair before blow drying.
I hope these ideas help, the chlorine can really do a number on your hair!

Do you have to get your hair wet?...
I swim a lot and I pull my hair up into a Caroline Ingalls type bun on the top of my head and dont dunk my head... the days I am doing front crawl and have no choice but getting my hair wet... I make sure my hair is greasy and ready to be washed so that my natural oils and nastyness are protecting my hair .. I then get out of the pool and shampoo and condition right away

Not gonna lie, I would pay cash money to see Marny with a Caroline Ingalls bun. HAHAHA
